Whyville Poet
Midnight waves crash against our only aegis
Purely lightning is seen in the velvet black sky
The moon and stars are blind
Nobody can hear our clamor for help
I feel as if we are rowing to nowhere
Aware that these are my final moments
I tentatively look up
A heavenly beam of light is in the distance
I scream as others see the glimmer
There is a sense of relief as we row toward the shore
Nothing can hurt us now
