Party! and Rock Lesson

I think we should have an annual Whyville party for when Whyville first started. It could be like an anniversary, with a dance, formal wear, etc. Since we celebrate Halloween, Christmas, etc., why not Whyville's anniversary? Take it into consideration.

Editor's Note: As a matter of fact, we usually throw some sort of celebration during Whyville's birthday, in March. We haven't had a dance before, though....

Well, on a more educational note, I was thinking, how much do we really know about rocks and minerals? I am learning about them again in science class right now, and have taken the time to share with you some things I've learned.

Sedimentary Rock: Is formed by loose sediments being eroded (worn away from the Earth's surface) and carried into a stream, river, etc. Then, they float... first the heavier particles sink, then after drifting awhile, medium size parts sink, and then after a while longer, the smaller particles sink. Soon they are compacted (squeezed, basically) into beds, and with cementation and other forces pushing upon them, they soon form a sedimentary rock.

Metamorphic Rock: Is formed when either sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic rocks are put under intense heat and pressure. They are compacted together, and will eventually form the rock.

Igneous Rock: Is formed when magma cools below the Earth's surface (extrusive rock) or when lava cools atop the Earth's surface (intrusive).

Sedimentary: used in construction, toothpaste, roofing, bricks, chalk, etc.
  • Layers.
  • Fossils.
  • Can tell you more about the history of earth, with the fossils.
  • LOLz, I forget other details.
Metamorphic: used in buildings, tiles, pencils, etc.
  • Layers.
  • No fossils.
  • LOLz, again I forget others.
  • Lots of crystals
    Igneous: used in blackboards, etc.
  • No layers
  • Few crystals
  • Smooth
  • 3 shades of color, light, medium, dark

Well, lolz, that's basically all I remember right now (hits head, very bad memory) but maybe I'll remember more later. Hope ya enjoyed this article.

Remembering to remember next time,
