The Golden Rules

QUISP
Times Writer

Hey, it's me, QUISP! Now I'm writing about the Golden Rule! It's just one similarity between virtually ALL religions: how you should treat others how you yourself would wish to be treated. I thought about it during art class, when our teacher (whom I greatly adore) was talking to us about Remembrance Day (But I'll write about that later), and how many wars have been caused over religion.

Ironic, how beliefs that were meant to bring people together, to make them love and cherish the things they have, can be thrown away, to try and convert others to the same beliefs. Ugh, it practically infuriates me to think about it.

Buddhism
"Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful."
     Udana-Varga 5,1

Christianity
"All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye so to them; for this is the law and the prophets."
     Matthew 7:1

Hinduism
"This is the sum of duty; do naught onto others what you would not have them do unto you."
     Mahabharata 5,1517

Judaism
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellowman. This is the entire Law; all the rest is commentary."
     Talmud, Shabbat 3id

Taoism
"Regard your neighbor's gain as your gain, and your neighbor's loss as your own loss."
     Tai Shang Kan Yin P'ien

Bah??'?? Faith
"And if thine eyes be turned towards justice, choose thou for thy neighbour that which thou choosest for thyself."
_Epistle to the Son of the Wolf_, 30

These are just a few of the many religions out there, but they all teach us to treat each other with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, it's something not many of us do.

It's the little things, such as calling someone a name - even if its just joking around, that can ripple out and spread to all others.. (Ever noticed one person being teased, then others come in and join?)..

That's all I have to say. Remember, we're not so different, after all. =)

-QUISP Here's a link with a few other "Golden Rules" in it - and it was where I got most of the ones in this article, so if something is typed wrong, or something like that, it's not my fault: http://www.fragrant.demon.co.uk/golden.html.
