Take a Puff Outta This!

Wildfire9

Hey! Wildfire9 here! I decided to do a lil' article on the dangers of smoking.

In November, schools across the country participate in the Great Tobacco Smoke Out. My school has participated in this event for many years. We have special guests come to our school and speak to us. One person especially brings a "friend". His "friend" is a pig lung. A real, actual pig lung! I'm not kidding! But, unlike normal pig lungs, this lung is black. It shows you how your lungs look after you smoke for a while. Everyone is like, "Is that real?" He says, "It's real!"

Did you know that some chemicals in a cigarette include:

  • Acetone -- found in nail polish remover!
  • Methane -- swamp gas!
  • Carbon Monoxide -- very very deadly gas!
  • Formaldehyde -- used to preserve dead bodies, including the frogs you dissect!
  • Cyanide -- rat poison!
  • Nicotine - illegal to use as a bug killer in the U.S.! But sure! You can SMOKE it!
  • Ammonia -- Mom uses this to clean the house!
  • Tar -- yep! That black gunk in the road on your lungs!

Australians spend more on Coca-Cola and cigarettes than any other supermarket item, according to a national survey.

This year's ACNielsen Top 100 Brands report rates Coca-Cola the number one brand in Australia, with $634 million in annual sales, followed by cigarette brands in the rest of the top five. The top 20 brands are:

  1. Coca-Cola;
  2. Longbeach cigarettes;
  3. Winfield cigarettes;
  4. Peter Jackson cigarettes;
  5. Horizon cigarettes;
  6. Pura milk;
  7. Benson & Hedges cigarettes;
  8. Huggies nappies;
  9. Holiday cigarettes;
  10. Tip Top bread....

As you see, Australians spend a lot of money on Coke. But look how much they spend on cigarettes! Now, I'm not criticizing Australia. America smokes a lot too! Sixty-four million Americans smoke! Ninety percent of them were hooked before their 19th birthday! Can you believe it?

Down Sides To Smoking:

  • Yellow teeth,
  • yellow fingers,
  • smelly hair,
  • smelly breath,
  • smelly clothes,
  • MUCH easier to get cancer, colds, and other diseases,
  • dark circles under your eyes,
  • and about a bijillion other things!

Up Sides To Smoking:

There are no up sides!

So think about it. When you see real people smoking, do they look happy like on their commercials? Do they look ill and washed out? You tell me!

Ta Ta For Now!
Love,
*a very outraged* Wildfire9

Editor's Note: A good article with some interesting facts, Wildfire9 - next time, could you let us know what references you got these stats from? Thanks! That'll help us know where to start when we want to learn more.
