Marks and Grades

Woosh! As I write this, it is now that fateful time of year when we write midterms (or at least, for some of us) and when we get our first report cards of the year... (or at least, *I* do, LoL).

It's me, QUISP, and I'm here to talk about marks (grades) and how some people obsess over them -- and how others completely dismiss them. There are several reasons as to WHY people have these varying opinions. I know people at both extremes of the spectrum, and people in the middle.

Marks do not always denote intelligence -- one of my really good friends is the most intelligent person I've ever met, but unfortunately he doesn't try AT ALL in school. (When he does, he easily gets high 90's in, well, in EVERYTHING.) He just isn't trying, and is barely passing (except for one class that caught his attention -- he has a 99 in that, LoL). Other friends of mine base their lives around marks, and school -- although I tend to disagree with their philosophy, especially since there are more important things to experience when you're my age, like having friends and loving the people around you. (That's not to say I don't try my hardest in school.) They do succeed in it, and since it is their strong point (unlike athletics, or other things) they choose to study, rather than throw balls. This does not make them "nerds", "geeks", or any of the other derogatory terms often associated with intelligence, it just means they worry about it more than the general population!

School is just like everything else, try hard in it and you will succeed. Although concepts in certain areas come more easily to some, and others may have to work harder to achieve those same marks, they *CAN* get very good marks, though it may require extra-studying time, or a tutor! It is also important not to obsess over them, though. If you do poorly on this report card, just make it your goal to improve in the next one, even IF you have a 95% in something -- you can always do better.

I found out all my marks today. They're AWESOME! So much better than I ever did in elementary (that's another misconception -- high school isn't necessarily more difficult than elementary. I find it easier, and more fulfilling -- although it may just be my teachers). Anyway, now it's time for me to go out with some of my friends, bye!
