The Nestle Explanation

Dear Whyvillians,

Well, I was pretty dumbstruck when I opened my whymail inbox today to find several mails referring to 'my Nestle article'. Opening the Times, confused, I scrolled down and indeed saw what they were talking about! So I thought I'd clear some things up, as I can understand your concerns about the accusations I was making.

Firstly: I sent this article in quite a while ago. The Editor sent me a helpful note back asking me to list my sources and so on, comments which I duly noted. I never had time to alter what I had said, as I've been very busy, so I assumed the article would sit on a shelf somewhere at the back of the Times office until I wheeled out my new version. Not so...

Editor's Note: My apologies to you, Ybird. Your article was so powerful and daring, it was hard for me to wait on it. I figured publishing would spur your fellow citizens to do some research on their own -- which you'll see has indeed happened! I ought to have warned you first, though. Thanks for your patience, and your excellent articles.

Now, secondly, I'd like to apologize for some of the things I said. They were, I see, angry and exaggerated. I think I was trying too hard, being too passionate about getting my point across. You aren't a killer. I'll bet you didn't even know about what Nestle were doing. It isn't your fault. I'm sorry. :(

And of course, what I say is my opinion. There are plenty of pro-Nestle sites around, and everyone is entitled to their own thoughts.

Thirdly, and most importantly, where did I get my information? Who's to know that I didn't just make it up because I hate KitKats? Here are some useful pages (please do not complain if some of the links are the same as some of those shown on the first page... this is not me wanting to look like I have more links, it's just that I found them in different ways)...

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/8148/nestle.html
This has loads of links on the Nestle Boycott.

http://www.babymilkaction.org/pages/boycott.html
A short but clear account of the problems.

http://www.wearsthebaby.com/articles/nestle.html
Lists Nestle products and gives information on why people boycott Nestle.

http://danny.oz.au/BFAG/

http://www.breastfeeding.com/advocacy/advocacy_boycott.html

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~stu/milk.htm

And many more. I also attended a school lecture on the subject, which covered the main points that these websites have.

Hope this clears things up!

Ybird
