Hey Whyville! It's nebjm. The year 2002 has come and gone, and here's a rough timeline of what happened in our town during the year. Sorry if I forgot anything! Hopefully I won't -- I scoured 50 issues of the Times!

January '02 (The amazing month I joined.)

  • Winter Solstice Safari '01 wraps up. The individual top scorers are girlie18, snowstorm, twister75, wawaziggy, and johncub.
  • The New Year's Masquerade Ball best costume winner is babymatt.

    February '02

  • Whyville gets a new server.
  • Dr. Leila warns of an epidemic in Whyville.
  • Disease spreads to Whyville. The spotty, red rash is dubbed "Why Pox".

    March '02

  • Whyville turns 3 years old.
  • The GeoDig safari begins with the help of Neo/SCI.
  • "The Perfect Krime", an article published in the Times, gets many responses.

    April '02

  • Bigfoot Bill mentions an upcoming nutrition game.
  • The Why Pox epidemic is starting to die down in Whyville. The citizens that helped the most with research, contributed to discussion, and most accurately predicted the peak and demise of the epidemic were awarded a 30-day Why Pass each. The winners were: bitterswt, snowstorm, and ChinaDawl.
  • Whyville announces it's going to Regina, Canada.

    May '02

  • Whyville's population reaches 200 000.
  • Whyville goes to Regina.
  • Whyville's second prom is held. The prom King is JayR, and the prom Queen is TrYsT.

    June '02

  • The 2002 Summer Solstice Safari starts.
  • Try-outs for the Whyville Safety Patrol begin.
  • A City Worker realizes that the Trading Post has been showing only Akbar-made parts. Problem fixed.

    July '02

  • The Whyville Safety Patrol is formed.
  • Whyville's population reaches 250 000.
  • A glitch is found in the SmartCars game; some citizens were winning by doing a u-turn at the start and automatically winning.

    August '02

  • Whyville is featured on a one-minute news clip on CNN.
  • An article about Whyville appears in the LA Times.
  • The 150th edition of the Whyville Times comes out.
  • The 911 tool in now featured in city records and in petitions.

    September '02

  • Slim the Bushwhacker makes it to the Whyville beach.
  • Akbar's Face Mall begins charging a 3-clam fee to search for parts. Whyville citizens demand the free search back, and less then 2 days after it was introduced, the fee is eliminated.
  • The Spin Lab has been played one million times.

    October '02

  • The Whyville Store now sells real-life Whyville shirts, mugs, Frisbees, and other merchandise.
  • The Times Editor declares that city workers are developing a BBS for each article in the Times. Citizens will be able to discuss controversial articles, and ask the author questions.
  • Whyville has its fourth annual Halloween party at Hauntington House. "It was a graveyard smash...!"

    November '02

  • The winners of the Halloween costume are Bracelet (in third place with 62 votes), 2cute4u2 (second place with 75 votes), and TIKE in first place with 104 votes.
  • The AbilityFirst rec room opens. Citizens begin voting on what game the room should feature.

    December '02

  • MediaWiz starts a "media hour" on Wednesdays. Citizens that watch the television shows in his articles can come and discuss them. A clam bonus is offered.
  • The Whyville Forest opens. Chaim and Santa are there again.

    I hope this timeline brought back some old memories. Searching through the old archives, I realized how much the Times Editor does!! I think we owe him a round of applause! *Clapclapclap* His "What's New For This Week!" articles really helped while I was writing this.
