A ball named Rufus was bouncing around his street. He deeply loved bouncing. Days went pass quickly because he would sit around all daydreaming about being the world champion bouncer.

His mother came out of the house yelling at Rufus to come home for bed. Little Rufus bounced back home and bounced into bed, dreaming of becoming the world's best bouncer. That morning, when Rufus woke up, he bounced out of bed and landed on the floor and couldn't bounce anymore! Rufus wonder what was going on and he looked down and saw mechanical legs sticking out from beneath him.

"MOMMY!" he cried. His mother came running into his room, all worried that her little Rufus was hurt. Then she saw his legs.

"Oh my. Look at those. We need to go to the doctor right away!" So she grabbed Rufus into the car and the car bounced away. Rufus was crying cause he knew that he can no longer be the world's best bouncer. When they got to the doctor's office. The Doctor looked over Rufus and examines him completely.

"Um," he said. "I have found out why Rufus has mechanical legs. He has a very rare disease. It's called Mechanicallegitis -- it's when mechanical legs have lost their previous owner and they travel around until they find a person that will suit them just fine. Because your little boy is a ball, Ma'am, and he has no legs, the mechanical legs thought he was perfect."

"But is there anything that we can do?" his mother asked.

"Well, yes. You have to find someone that has no legs but needs them for both your son and that person to be happy."

"But that's too hard. Everybody in ball land never uses legs since... well... ever!"

"Well, until that happens, your son will have to keep them."

Rufus and his mother went to the car to go home. Rufus cried the whole way.

"Don't worry son." His mother said. "Well, find somebody."

"Sniff, you think so?" Rufus said.

"I know so." His mother said, trying to cheer him up. But she was worried herself. She knew how to cheer Rufus up but now she needed to cheer herself up as well. They bounced up to their house in their car.

"Look Rufus! Our new neighbors are here," his mother pointed out. "I heard that they had a little boy about close to your age. Would you like to bounce out to say hello?"

"No. He'll just laugh at my LEGS." Rufus went inside, hoping that he'd never come out again. His mother decided to be polite and say hello to the new neighbors. She saw a monkey in the yard walking to a car. "Hello, my name is Mrs. Ballerd, and I live next door," Rufus's mother said.

"Hello, I'm Mrs. Monkeyton," the new neighbor said.

"I heard you have a son. I also have a son too."

"Do you! Well, I hope they can be good friends."

Mrs. Ballerd saw an unusual looking little monkey walking on his hands. "Would you like to meet my son, Martin?" asked Mrs. Monkeyton.

"Yes, I would."

"Martin! Martin, come here please! This is Mrs. Ballerd, Martin."

"Hello, Mrs. Ballerd," said Martin as he shook Mrs. Ballerd's hand. Then he went off to play.

"Mrs. Monkeyton, if you don't mind me talking about you son this way. But, he isn't normal like the other monkeys, right?"

"Well, yes. But we like to call him special. He wasn't born with any legs. He learn to live without them, but I swear sometimes his face droops down to the floor when we talk about legs."

"My son is??? "special" too. You see, he has this very rare disease called Mechanicallegitis. He has mechanical legs."

"Oh that would be bad for him, wouldn't it? I'm sorry."

"But wait! The only way we can get rid of them is for someone else to use them. So if we get both of them together, my son can give your son the mechanical legs and we all can be happy."

"You're right!"

Mrs. Ballerd and Mrs. Monkeyton got both of their sons together to meet each other.

Everybody grabbed Rufus's legs and pulled as hard as they could. Once the leg got off, it ran around and found Martin and stuck to him. Then they pulled the other leg as hard as they could and that leg went to the same place as the other. Everybody cheered as both of the boys danced around happily.

"Wow! I can still pursuit my dream of becoming the world's best bouncer!" said Rufus happily.

"And I can have legs like the rest of my kind... but wait!" Martin pointed down to his legs and everyone looked.

"They're on backwards!"

"Oh well," said Mrs. Monkeyton. "I guess you'll always be my special little guy."
