Two weeks ago, as many of you know, we made an initial announcement in the Whyville Times that the Whyville staff was trying to find a solution to a growing clothing crisis at Akbar's. The problem, put as simply as possible, is that you Whyvillians are simply too successful in producing more and more face parts, and as a result the storage space (database) at Akbar's is filled to overflowing. Also, with so many designs in Akbar's, new designs by new designers are often buried in deep piles and hard to find.

What we thought would make sense was to have face parts last for only a certain amount of time. In the real world, no clothes last forever!! (Yes, real world noses don't disappear, but you also can't pick and choose your nose without expensive and risky surgery...! Heheh.) If each new design lasted for only 3 months, for example, then lots of Whyvillians would have many more opportunities to make designs, and poor Akbar could come out from under the deep pile of old designs.

Well, were we surprised at your response!!! City Workers got emails and Y-mails to spare, the BBS hummed, ideas were presented, old time Whyvillians who we like a LOT threatened to quit, and all in all there was a regular hullabaloo. In fact, it was just what we like best about Whyville -- that Whyvillians care about their town AND their face parts, and aren't afraid to state their opinions and TAKE ACTION. And even more importantly, we received many new and better ideas than we had thought of ourselves. So, the city workers, guided by City Hall, considered all the ideas we were given and have come up with the following possible solution to the crisis at Akbar's:

FIRST -- NONE OF THE FACE PARTS YOU NOW OWN WILL GO AWAY! You earned them, you get to keep them as long as you want. Keep in mind, that this only counts for parts you own now and do not trade in the future. If you get an old part in a trade after this week, it will have an age limit.

SECOND, we decided that in order to help Akbar out right away, we would have a one time, one-week long face part turn in for CASH!! When you open 'Pick Your Nose', you will see a recycle bin -- with dollar signs ($$) on it. We will give you a certain number of clams for every old used face part you recycle. (Parts designed after this article comes out will NOT be recyclable.) Then, with that money, you can go out and buy new face parts. Of course, if you want to be generous, you can always turn your old face parts into Grandma, for newbies to have -- it's up to you.

And LAST, we really do have to do something to save Akbar in the future. His shelves are bursting at the seams. At the same time, we want to give everyone's new designs the maximum chance to sell. So, starting today, just like in the real world, all new face parts will wear out after three months. If you made a design that is still really selling after three months, there is nothing to stop you from making it again. Or if you think you have an improvement on a design, you can make that, too. With this change, Whyville will be filled with new ideas and new fashions and everyone will have a chance to contribute.

If we decide to go with this plan we believe that these changes will improve our economy, make your companies even more successful, and will make the fashions in Whyville even more fun. So thank you for voicing your opinions, and giving us your ideas. Once again, Whyvillians came to the rescue of Whyville.
