Ok, ok, I made that up :-) but here is the real situation with the great face
part "massacre".
First, there seems to be a lot of confusion about what is going on at Akbar's,
so let me set the record straight, and it is really very simple: when you
buy a face part at Akbar's, it will wear out in 91 days. In the real world,
clothes wear out, face parts wear out, EVERYTHING wears out. So now, the same
thing happens in Whyville. This won't happen for face parts you bought before
this month, because City Hall decided after hearing from you that it wasn't fair
to take away face parts that you bought before, since you might have thought they would
last forever. However, from now on, new face parts will wear out. Naturally,
just like your favorite shoes, if you really like them a lot, you can go buy a
new pair from the mall when your current pair wears out.
One reason we made this change is to make Whyville more realistic, but there is
another reason that is even more important. People now own so many face parts
that it is starting to affect how many people can be on Whyville. Our computers
are working so hard to keep track of everyone's face parts that it means fewer people can be on the site at
the same time than otherwise. Accordingly, City Hall had
to make a decision between people having lots of face parts, and people being
able to have all their friends on Whyville at the same time.
We KNOW that people don't want to go back to long lines in the waiting room, so
we decided to make this change.
So, I hope that makes the situation clear. After you buy a face part, you will
see a number next to that part in your inventory list -- that number tells you
how many days are left before the moths eat your face parts. :-)
