The Contender is an excellent novel. It contains extraordinary descriptions paired with an original story line; two qualities that make it an exceptional read.

You can feel the pain, sorrow, and happiness of the main character, Alfred. The Contender takes you through the personal journey of Alfred, through situations that even if you have not experienced them yourself, you can relate. When you begin the book, it wraps you in a blanket of interest and curiosity, a blanket that you cannot shake off until you have finished the novel.

I would recommend this book because it is both intriguing and realistic, and because it pulls you into a place where many of us have never been before... the mind of the contender.
