Hey, Hermionez here to tell you about some my favorite author's books. My
favorite author of all time is E.L. Konigsburg. Some of you bookworms out there
might have heard of her most famous book, The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler,
but she has other books too -- and that brings me to why I'm writing this
article. Hopefully someone will read one of her books when they are bored
instead of just banging their head against a wall. (I actually have done that.
But that's for another article.) So here is a review of a bunch of E.L.
Konigsburg books:
The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler -- Claudia Kincaid
has decided that her family doesn't appreciate her enough. So, she decides to run
away to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She takes along her brother, Jamie, who
has been hoarding money since he was born. They are a perfect team because
Claudia is cautious about everything except money and Jamie is the exact
opposite. It starts out as just an adventure but a statue, "Angel", changes
everything. Claudia is fascinated by it. She wants to find out all about it.
Somehow she feels that knowing would make her go back home different. Whether
she finds out Angel's secret is something you'll have to find out by reading the
book.
All About the B'nai Bagels -- Mark is a 13 year old kid whose best
friend isn't his best friend anymore and he has to prepare for his Bar Mitzvah.
As if that's not enough, his mother decides to manage his baseball team and
recruit's Mark's brother Spencer to coach them. This is a story about how Mark
deals with all these strange turns of events. It also is a story of the B'nai
Brith baseball team going from a last in the league to a winning team. Its
about how hard the overlaps can be. Are you confused yet? I just read this
paragraph over and found it very confusing. Well, read the book and you'll
understand what I mean.
A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver -- Eleanor of Aquitaine was
queen of both England and France. This is a book about her after she's gotten in
to heaven. She and some of her friends from her days back on Earth are reliving
the past while they wait for Eleanor's second husband to come up, King Henry II.
It is a fun and interesting book that teaches you history without you even
realizing it.
Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, William McKinley, and Me, Elizabeth --
Elizabeth recently moved to a new town and still doesn't have any friends. Until
on Halloween, as she's walking to school, she comes upon a girl sitting in a
tree. That girl is named Jennifer, and she claims that she is a witch. This is the
story of how Elizabeth meets a witch, becomes an apprentice witch, and how
Elizabeth makes a friend.
A View from Saturday -- I saved the best for last. This is my
favorite book in the world. It is about four kids and their teacher. Their names
are Noah Gershom, Nadia Diamondstein, Ethan Potter, Julian Singh, and Mrs.
Olinski. Ms. Olinski picks these four 6th graders to be her representatives for
the Academic Bowl, which is a state wide academic contest. This team advances
beats the 7th grade in their school...which has never happened. They then beat
the 8th grade... which has also never happened before. They advance through the
county level, the regional level, and get to the finals. They are the only 6th
graders there. They advance through the finals till they are in the very final
round against 8th graders from Maxwell Middle School. This is the story of
Nadia, Noah, Ethan, Julian, and Ms. Olinski and their journey to the finals. The
journey wasn't only a physical journey, but mental and spiritual
one too.
Okay, those are 5 books by E.L. Konigsburg. They're all very good books and I
would give them all 5 stars. So read them and then y-mail me your opinions of
