After reading Dippindot's article about weddings in Whyville, I thought I'd share another view on the subject.

Maybe weddings do sound a little extreme, because in real life getting married is a HUGE deal that usually costs thousands of dollars and involves a bond that's supposed to last a lifetime. But in Whyville, it's a whole different ball game.

Whyvillians know that Whyville Weddings aren't for real. The person you "marry" on Whyville isn't the one you're planning on spending the rest of your life with... it's just for fun!

I don't think many Whyvillians take the online weddings seriously, and I mean, who hasn't thought about what their wedding is going to be like? I've already got my ring and dress picked out! I don't think it's much different than eight or so years ago when I would have an entire congregation of dolls and stuffed animals in organized rows to watch the marriage of Barbie and Ken.

Dippindot said that Whyville is just a place to have fun, which is exactly what I think these so-called matrimonies are. It's a fun event where you can plan, invite and host a wedding. This meaningless event enhances organizational skills (Whoa, wait, is there an educational side to this as well? Heehee!), and the idea of having a "wedding" when you're still just a kid is pretty cool. Especially since it's make-believe.

I've never been married on Whyville myself, but I've been in lots of them -- always a bridesmaid, never a bride -- and I sell wedding and engagement stuff at my shop. They sell like crazy, so I know I'm not the only person who has fun with the Whyville weddings.

Well, I thought I'd let it be known to that there are two sides to every story. The best part about Whyville weddings is that the choice is all yours. You can participate if you want to, or stay out of the picture if you don't. It's up to you!

Over and out,
