What if the chatrooms on Whyville won't show up on your computer? What if it's just a blank screen and you don't know how to fix it? Have you spent countless days unable to chat with other people, "Pick Your Nose," or do anything else on Whyville? Well, this problem happened to me, and after e-mailing City Management, I received a few pointers on how to fix this dreadful problem. Here they are:

1. Reinstall Java software onto your computer, by going to www.java.com and clicking on the green download tab on the right.
2. Next, you need to make sure Java is working properly on your computer:

If you are using Netscape:

1. Look under the "Edit" and choose preferences.
2. In preferences click "Advanced".
3. On the top half of the window on the right, you should see options for Java.
4. Choose "enable" Java.
5. In the bottom half of that same question, you should see options for cookies.
6. Choose "Accept all cookies" or "Accept only cookies that get sent back...."
7. Click ok.

-If you are using IE (Internet Explorer):

1. Look under "Tools" and choose Internet Options.
2. Click the "Security" tab.
3. Choose "Internet", then click the "Custom Level" button.
4. Scroll down and look for "Java".
5. Choose "low security".
6. While you're in this screen, look for "cookies" and make sure they are enabled.
7. Click ok to close this window.
8. Click ok again to close the "Tools" window.
9. You may need to close IE and reopen it for these changes to take effect.

I hope these instructions helped. If you have any questions, please feel free to y-mail me and we'll try to figure out the answers to the best of our abilities.
