In a recent article by wildfire9, called "Club-Why Now Club-Newbie", she argued that we should get paid to read the Times. I know that if Whyvile paid us to read the Times, everyone would be totally rich! Fact is, they wouldn't even read it, they would just open the windows and then close them: it'd be that easy. I don't think clams-for-reading would work out.

I went to the BBS where you can post about what you think about the article and read some of what people had said. Some agreed and others disagreed. I totally disagree! If you think we should get paid to read the Times, and that's the only reason you want to read the Times, then don't read it!?? (I know that's not why wildfire9 suggested it, but that's all some people are interested in!)

One person suggested that there be a short quiz for clams after you read the article. Once again, I disagree. A person could easily print out the article and then take the quiz, looking up all of the answers. Another poster suggested that there should be a trivia game based on the Times for clams. That would get people to read the paper, no doubt about it, but once again, someone could easily print the article(s) and then look up all the answers.

There was another suggestion that the people who write articles should be paid. Then the person said it should happen only if the article is published. Do you know how many articles the Times Editor gets each week? Once again, I don't agree with whoever wrote that if your article is published you should get clams. Editor's Note: For a while, all published authors got clams -- anywhere from 40 to 120 and more, per article.?? But the reason we did that was to encourage folks to write for the Times... and these days, we get hundreds of articles every week!

My question is: How did the title "Club-Why Now Club-Newbie?" bring up getting paid to read the Times, "online loves", and a debate over whether Whyville is an educational site or not...?

Here are a few of the posts I found; I starred out their names so no one would get too mad:

that is very true...most people don't really know or think of Whyville as an educational place...some people think of it as a place to just find online love

i do agree with you, Whyville is becoming more and more of a dating site, not educational. however, I don't like the idea of paying clams to READ the times. maybe write, but not read. Maybe its just me, but it seems like...bribing. sort of.

i agree with both of you, Whyvillians have become very focused on boy/girlfriends and having " - " as some call it. Now i'm not saying that I don't have a Whyville boyfriend, because I do, but we talk about our intrests and our friends and our schools. not "making-out" or the other thing! I think people could definatly become more mature here!

I started this site because of a little thing I read about it in GL a few months ago, and I got some of my friends to join. I figured out and enjoyed the games, and I've read every times issue that has been put out sinse when I joined. My friends on the other hand needed me to walk them through the games and just use it as a chat site. My one friend didn't even know what the times was and only read it maybe once, or if I tell her about a good article she MAY read it. I just wish that every one would just use Whyville as an educational AND fun site, not eductiional OR fun site.
??

Remember those were just a few of the posts and replies I found.

Thank you, I'm gary4life, saying Do Not Pay People To Read The Times, It's Optional!!
