Editor's Note: Here's the transcript of the Whyville Senator Debate, held on Friday, April 23 -- we've basically kept just the questions and answers of the candidates and City Workers, for the most part, so it's not 5 miles long... :-) Enjoy, and may the best candidate win! Be sure to vote this week! The winner will be announced in next week's Times.

City Hall: Welcome to Whyville's 3rd Senate Debate!
City Hall: Our candidates tonight are, in alphabetical order, BabyPowdr, Brian98, and Sonner.
City Hall: Thank you for being here tonight, candidates. Applause for our candidates, please!
City Hall: And thank you, audience, for attending! We are all participating in the great democratic process!
City Hall: Before we start in earnest, I'd like to clear up one common misunderstanding.
City Hall: The senate position these candidates are competing for does NOT replace OreoBaby's position. Whomever is elected will be an additional senator.
City Hall: We are hoping to have a 3-member senate eventually, with each senator serving for 6 months.
City Hall: I hope this is clear. Okay. Let's start now with opening statements from the candidates...
City Hall: Candidates, I will bring you up one at a time, in alphabetical order, to give an opening statement. You will have 60 seconds each.
City Hall: BabyPowdr is first.

Brian98: Thats hard
BabyPowdr: yikes

City Hall: Then each candidate gets 30 seconds to ask the others questions about what they just said, and the other two will respond.
Sonner: THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT
Brian98: Thanks guys!!! You all Rock!!!
City Hall: Neutral suggests that each gets 90 seconds to answer. Okay, let's try that.
BabyPowdr: ok
Brian98: Thanks Neut
neutral: thanks, city hall
City Hall: We are going to rotate order, so the order will be Brian98, Sonner, BabyPowdr.
BabyPowdr: *squeezes Elbert*
BabyPowdr: phew
Brian98: Me?
Brian98: Ok
City Hall: Here is my question to all 3 of you.
Sonner: ok
City Hall: Each of you listed many items in your platforms. You all want to do a lot! And many of the things you want are the same. How should citizens choose between you? Please pick one aspect of your
platform that is most different from the other candidates' and explain to us in detail how you plan to achieve this particular goal.
City Hall: Please pick one aspect of your platform that is most different from the other candidates' and explain to us in detail how you plan to achieve this particular goal.

City Hall: Please stand at the other podium
Sonner: yup bo :)
Brian98: Mine is different because mine offers the message that my ideas aren't out of this world but they are resonable.
City Hall: Pick a specific one to talk about.
Brian98: It offers ideas that would help Whyville in unique ways and would help it's citizen's who visit often
Brian98: Like Teh bank idea. It would help citizens get ready for the future by investing their money for save keeping
City Hall: Okay, thank you Brian98.

Brian98: It's B-E-Autufil!
City Hall: Sonner, your turn to take the podium please.
BabyPowdr: and thats the way teh cookie crumbles :)
Brian98: Go get em Mark!
BabyPowdr: im nervous :S
BabyPowdr: lol
Brian98: You'll do awesome!
Sonner: Well first off I'm very excited about having bank accounts to have Whyvillians learn about accounting and how to manage
Sonner: Their clams and how to spend and save them
Sonner: It would elminate people making petitions on having more clams when you can earn interest
Brian98: Thanks Yay I agree
Sonner: ALso I want the city wide poll yo start whether to keep or get rid of plots and have apartments
City Hall: okay. thank you. BabyPowdr. Your turn please.
Brian98: GO BP!!!!!!
BabyPowdr: well, i agree witht eh bank idea but i want to focus on having poeple get higher slaries and understanding of the
Sonner: im so nervous lol
BabyPowdr: way the face factory and such works. i think we should host help seminars for newer or confused people, and i personally
BabyPowdr: would be willing to host one or write articles adn such to get the message out
BabyPowdr: i just think, some people need help that the instructions dont give
BabyPowdr: i want to gove that help :)
BabyPowdr: **give
BabyPowdr: lol
neutral: thanks BabyPowdr
BabyPowdr: no prob CH
City Hall: Great, thank you. Now, each candidate gets to come up here and ask the other 2 something about what they had just said. The first to ask will be Sonner. Sonner, please take the other podium.
Sonner: i really dont have many questions but ill try to think of some lol
City Hall: Okay, sonner, please ask. You have 30 seconds to pose one question to each of the others.
Sonner: Brian98 which plan do you have for Whyville do you think can be most likely accomplished if u win?
City Hall: Brian98, please come to this podium and answer Sonner's question.
Sonner: Also doeither of have any ideas outside ur platforms?
Brian98: If I win, I plan to add the Bank, finish the Food Court, and add more contests. I want people to learn things off Whyvil
City Hall: okay.
City Hall: That sounds good.
Brian98: Whyville so it can help them in the future. Those are my main things i want to complete and the others i'll work on
Sonner: *Claps*
City Hall: Sonner, do you have a question for BabyPowdr?
Sonner: Yes :)
BabyPowdr: lol.. iikes
Brian98: *Claps for Brian*
City Hall: Okay, please ask
Sonner: It's not hard BP
BabyPowdr: lol
City Hall: Well, I think it should be hard ;-)
Sonner: Babypowdr do you have any other plans for Whyville that you didn't mention in your platform?
BabyPowdr: well yes actually i think i do:)
City Hall: BabyPowdr, please answer.
BabyPowdr: lol.. tee hee, my plans were to kinda incorporate everyone's nationalities with more than just teh sun puzzle.
Sonner: *Claps*
BabyPowdr: there are a lot of candians, europeans, jamacans, and such, and i think there should be an internation embassy or someth
BabyPowdr: ing for people to meet and chat
BabyPowdr: :)
neutral: thanks
City Hall: thank you.
City Hall: Sonner, please take a seat, and BabyPowdr, you are up to ask questions to the other candidates.
BabyPowdr: i think bo went first so i'll ask him
BabyPowdr: how many poeple do you think can make bank accounts? how much space is this going to need?
Brian98: Is that for me?
City Hall: Brian98, please come here to this podium to answer this question.
neutral: yes brian
BabyPowdr: yeh it was
Brian98: I think that everyone should at least get a bank account or should work for one in some way. It's a good way to help you
City Hall: The question was: how many people do you think would be able to make bank accounts?
BabyPowdr: i agree, but would it replace the ploits say?
BabyPowdr: sorry oops, that was only s';posed to be one question ^-^
Sonner: PLOITS IS PLOTS, JUST A TYPO
City Hall: BabyPowdr, do you have a question for Sonner?
BabyPowdr: yes, Sonner...
Sonner: Okie dokie lol
Brian98: Thanks for supporting me everyone!!
BabyPowdr: uhhm... what do you think you can do about "loookism".. I ask this becuase i know you are veteran and the new poeple thi
Sonner: lookism?
BabyPowdr: think we look funny
BabyPowdr: like, prejudice on "virtual faces"
Sonner: o ok i get it looks right?
Sonner: Well it's very rude for people to make fun of newbies because of they way they look
Sonner: Howvever people have asked me if I was a girl at times LoL which I found funny
BabyPowdr: i agree
Brian98: I don't call them Newbies..
Sonner: Well
BabyPowdr: lol
Sonner: uh the chat filtet
Sonner: sorry city hall the chat filter blocked it out can i say it again
City Hall: Please finish. go ahead.
Sonner: ok
Sonner: Well I just think newcomers or anyone for that matter should just not pay attention to those people because they have no
Sonner: nothing better to do with their time.. who knows maybe their jealous?
BabyPowdr: lol, awesome
Sonner: I like the idea of newbie days
BabyPowdr: thank you
City Hall: Okay, thanks. Now it is Brian98's turn to ask questions.
BabyPowdr: awwh, thanx *tear*
Sonner: P.S. I LOVE UR GOATEE BP
City Hall: Please ask away!
BabyPowdr: lol.. *strokes gatoee*
Brian98: Ok, Sonner. What do you think about the New Face Factory concern. Should everyone be able to use it?
Brian98: Or should it be a privilage?
Sonner: Of course people should be able to use it
Sonner: I like the idea of having Grenouille maybe only open on Mondays and Fridays therefore he has more time to accept parts
Sonner: Also I heard people can design face parts if you buy a why pass too
Brian98: Yes, same here
BabyPowdr: awesome
Sonner: So just buy a lifetime Why Pass and make all the parts you want it's really worth it because you make lots of clams
Brian98: Ok. Thank you!
City Hall: Thank you for plugging WhyPasses for us!
City Hall: :)
Sonner: It's really worth the clams you make trust me
City Hall: Okay, Brian98, a question for BabyPowdr, please?
Brian98: BP, Do you any plans if you get elected to fix the plots?
BabyPowdr: actually, no... i'd like to see them taken awya except for old town
Sonner: Thanks to my supporters
BabyPowdr: i want to clear that space out for more games and cahtrooms
BabyPowdr: and maybe just have old town filled with it's original citizens and forget teh plots
Brian98: That is a good idea
BabyPowdr: thank you :)
Brian98: Good Job Sonner and BP
BabyPowdr: or maybe whypass holders could buy plots or something.. i unno
BabyPowdr: the space would be handy.,..
Sonner: Plots were always free to my knowledge lol
neutral: thanks, candidates
BabyPowdr: but i meant buy it with the whypass... part of teh package :)
City Hall: thank you. Good show, candidates.
BabyPowdr: thanx
City Hall: Now, I will ask each of you a question. You will each have 90 seconds to respond.
BabyPowdr: ok
Sonner: Thanks City Hall and the people who voted for me
BabyPowdr: like Jeopardy... w00t!
Brian98: Sounds like a plan CH
City Hall: BabyPowdr, you are first. Please take the podium.
BabyPowdr: i;ll take politics for a thousand cityhall...
BabyPowdr: oops lol
City Hall: In real life, reporters are expected to steer clear of politics, let alone run for office, so that they can stay objective as reporters.
BabyPowdr: :)
BabyPowdr: well..
City Hall: As a Times Reporter and a candidate, what do you think of that? If you become Senator, would you stop reporting for a while?
City Hall: Or how would you stay impartial?
BabyPowdr: it is true i can get worked up over things...
BabyPowdr: but i could report on non political issues, non?
BabyPowdr: writing without a bias is hard for me, but it's a learning oppurtunity, adn that's what whyville's about, right?
City Hall: Possibly. Do you think in general that perhaps reporters should not participate in politics?
BabyPowdr: if they can do it without being biased, all teh power to them, but some should steer clear
City Hall: Okay, thank you.
City Hall: Brian98, you are next. Please take the podium
Brian98: hehhe D'oh
City Hall: In your interview with our current senator, you referred to her as "buddy old pal Oreo". Should we worry about the senate becoming a friends' clique if you are elected? What would you do to avoid the potential problems?
City Hall: Should we worry about the senate becoming a friends' clique if you are elected? What would you do to avoid the potential problems?
Brian98: Oreo is one of my best friends on Whyville and I don't think anyone should worry about it because we will still work as.
Brian98: ...as a team.
Brian98: Anyways people who are friends work together fantasticly!
City Hall: Okay. Now for Sonner.
Sonner: Okie dokie
City Hall: You mentioned that you would like Akbar to reduce his production prices because many designers, including yourself, are losing money. But there are many businesses making thousands of clams a week.
Brian98: HEY EVERYBODY AND THANKS FOR YOUR VOTES AND SUPPORT
Sonner: Cant see the rest
City Hall: Perhaps your products could just be better? Isn't this what free market and competition is all about?.
Sonner: Possibly, but people like SuPaGurLe are losing thousands of clams when she has great face parts
Sonner: Including me it costs about 20,000 clams to restock now and that's insane especially for someone who just started making
City Hall: Maybe her prices are too high? Or not enough marketing?
Sonner: Hmmm
Sonner: I don't want it to go back to 2 clams each but more like 2, 5 ,10 and 15
Sonner: Just to give new designers a chance to succeed in the face part business
Sonner: It's not fair to people who haven't been on long enough to make that many clams
City Hall: Okay, thank you. Good answer.
Sonner: ok thanks for the question
Brian98: Good answer. Hahah it's like Famuily Feud
Brian98: except without the family XD
City Hall: I think it is now time to take some questions from the audience.
Sonner: we should let the citizens ask more questions
Brian98: GO AUDIENCE YOU ROCK!
City Hall: Does anyone have questions for the candidates?
Sonner: I'm sure all you people do
sMaRtleS: Some people say that elections are solely based on popularity, what is your view on this?o
Sonner: All of us?
sMaRtleS: Yes, all of you.
Brian98: I can take that'
City Hall: yes, candidates, just answer, and I will post your answere one by one
BabyPowdr: I belioeve some are, but i am not popular. I didnt get here today becuase people like me... i dont believe
Sonner: Me next?
Brian98: I think people vote on the people who stand out and have good ideas. We all stand out (Bp's articles, Sonner's Face part
Sonner: People have said to me that I was only getting votes because I looked good but tonight I'm trying to show that I can be
Brian98: ..and we have great ideas that would fufill Whyville
BabyPowdr: thats true, we all go out adn do things, active citizens i think you call it
BabyPowdr: we've all written adn article atleast right? been to media hour, trivia, made face parts, solstice teams...
Sonner: But tonight when you can see me in person I'm trying to show that I am not here for looks I'm here because I am smart
Brian98: Yeah, most of us attend Trivia and Media Hour, are involed in Smart Cars and Solstcie and have all written articles
Sonner: I attend Trivia and am #1 in the smart car top 10 right now which shows I am an active Whyvillian with a good salary
8Dyay8D: For those of you that want to kill plots, do you plan on reimbursing those that spent many clams on their plots?
BabyPowdr: the plots are free in teh firts place, it's bricks you buy
kc12: Do you really think demolishing the plots are fair? I mean people have spent a lot of clams buying paint and bricks..
BabyPowdr: yes and i ahve too, i have a 11 room house or somethign like that (cant see them all) and i'll miss my house but the spa
BabyPowdr: space is valuable
8Dyay8D: yesh, but bricks and furniture can cost a lot.
koalsie: do u believe that we should have multiple senators and why?
Sonner: Of course because then we can have different people's opinions and share our thoughts to each other rather than b
Brian98: I think we should because different people have different ideas and persepctives about Whyville.
Sonner: being a single senator, you learn about others people thoughts instead of going on instinct
City Hall: The server where our faces sit must be down, which means that newcomers into the room would have newbie faces. It'll take about 10 minutes to come back up.
BabyPowdr: having a senate of mnany senators will help get more done, different poeple, different backgrounds, ages, race,.. gander
Sonner: You can fall froward instead of backwards if you have other senator's backing you up
naeZ21: What is your viewpoints on the new advertising by google in whyville?
BabyPowdr: i dont like it, but if we need it, we should have it., maybe teh ads could be geared for kids tho o.O
BabyPowdr: we all want to keep whyville running
Sonner: I have no problem with it if it helps Whyville out. But I read an article saying they saw an innapropriate add and that'
Brian98: I think they are good but they have to be relating to things that kids do nothing inapporpate
Sonner: is unnacceptable for google to put innapropriate adds on Whyville
BabyPowdr: "are you a dad to be? click here"
Sonner: It's very unnaceptable on a kids website
BabyPowdr: thats not a good ads for kids
Brian98: I agree,
City Hall: Unfortunately, google has no way of knowing that we are a site for kids.
BabyPowdr: maybe... like "hotwheels cars, new models!" would be okay
BabyPowdr: oh, yeh that too :(
Brian98: lol Hot wheels
savvvy: theres no way for whyville to censor them?
City Hall: No, the ads don't pass through our servers first.
Sonner: Can you delete innapropriate ones?
figgy45: HOW DO ALL OF YOU PLAN TO KEEP YOUR PROMISIS?
City Hall: Okay, here is a great question that I think each of you should answer in order.
BabyPowdr: i only made one promise, adn thats my word that i'll try my best
Sonner: They are not really promises they are more like idea's
City Hall: Brian98, what do you say?
Sonner: They are idea's you have for Whyville and I will try to accomplish as many as I can if elected senator.
Brian98: I think they are idea's too. some of mine won't work out, so I can't promise them. The bank is one of my big promises..
City Hall: Okay. I think we need to wrap up now. I will bring the candidates up one at a time for a closing statement.
City Hall: Sonner, you go first. You have 60 seconds.
City Hall: Please take the other podium.
Sonner: I can't promise everything in ym platform but I would love to have a times building interior to encourage readers to
Sonner: To encourage readers to read the Times so vote for me and you won't be disappointed you'll see results
City Hall: Okay, thank you.
City Hall: BabyPowdr, please take the podium.
Sonner: Thanks ;)
BabyPowdr: oh
BabyPowdr: ahh
BabyPowdr: chat moderator >=\
City Hall: It's easier to say shorter sentences.
BabyPowdr: i'm glad i got out there today, and that even if you dont vote for me
BabyPowdr: any of us will do the best we can
BabyPowdr: go dream three!
neutral: :)

City Hall: Such as it is, only one person will win. I hope the other
two will come back and campaign for our third senate seat.
Sonner: O my lol
BabyPowdr: awwh...
BabyPowdr: yeh, i'm gonna not go again next time tho
Sonner: if i dont win im not going to try next race because it takes
hard work
BabyPowdr: yay!
BabyPowdr: it's ok, i'll do okay, and i dont mind not winning

BabyPowdr: atleast i tried
BabyPowdr: and we;'re all such wonderful people, any of us would do
City Hall: All three of you are very strong.
