Be sure to check your spelling and write out a platform on your ideas of how you can improve Whyville if you are elected senator. Don't make outrageous promises like saying you'll give 2,000 clams a day to every Whyvillian, because obviously this won't happen. Also, try to make your platform interesting and have your title be eye catching (but appropriate).

Remember, your platform doesn't have to be long at all -- a simple short platform with how you can improve Whyville would suffice.

One last thing in writing a good platform is to put effort into your platform and your candidacy (I mean, be serious about the job!). Don't run for senator just because you want to see how many votes you can get, or just because you could become popular by doing so.

Also, remember to have fun!!! This hasn't been mentioned a lot, but try to meet new people and have fun running for senator. It will make it more worthwhile if it ends up that you do not succeed, and you won't feel as bad if you do not make the top three. It's tough to get there!

The next step is to ADVERTISE!!! Lots of Whyvillians just post a platform and leave it there, hoping to get votes (I've done that before). People rarely vote for you if they don't know you and what you stand for!

Go around Whyville and advertise what you want to accomplish if elected senator and why they should vote for you. You can do this by going around different rooms of Whyville and individually asking people if they would mind reading your petition. (It really works!! Trust me!)

Most of the time, if the Whyvillian is satisfied with your petition, they are very likely to sign it (they want you to do well). Don't feel pressured to ask them if they would mind telling their friends about you, they usually do!
