Why do Newbies get treated so poorly?

Why do people only clam rich and glamorous Whyvillians when newbies need it more?

Why, why, why, we ask! That's the problem -- everyone has different opinions on questions like these.

For instance, one Whyvillian would say, "The reason we don't clam newbies is that we go out and earn our clams, and they come along, not even trying to earn clams for themselves, and want us to give them clams we worked for!" while another Whyvillian would say, "The reason I don't want to clam newbies is because they are wierd and stupid and ugly!"

Well, I think it all comes down to how generous you are.

What can we do about it? One thing we can do is encourage people to be generous to newbies. I've seen people go and make fun of newbies, just because they don't know how to fight back. It's like a lion killing a weak rabbit.

Now, by being generous, I don't mean going and clamming every newbie you see. Just help them out a bit. Show them around Whyville and give them pointers.

On this subject, I interviewed one of my friends, to see what her opinions are. After all, everyone has different views.

Q: Why do you think newbies get treated so badly?
A: Well, I think that people don't pay attention to newbies. They only like rich people, because they are prettier and have clams.
Q: Why do you think people don't clam newbies?
A: Same reason. They only clam friends. I mean, would I give money to people that I don't know?
Q: Do you clam newbies?
A: Yes. When they are polite.
Q: What advice do you have for newbies?
A: To be polite to Whyvillians, and to ask for help when they need it, especially about the games. Not to be shy. And they should go out and make their own clams. It's easy.
Q: What was it like when you were a newbie?
A: Not bad, actually. Lots of people clam-grammed me. And I have a friend who has lots of clams.
Q: What is it like now.
A: Oh, way better. I make a better salary now than I used to.
Q: What advice do you have for regulars here on Whyville?
A: To be nice to newbies, make them feel comfortable and welcome. And to remember that they were newbies once, too.
Q: Have you ever donated to Grandma's?
A: Yes, a couple of times. I don't have enough face parts to donate a lot. LOL.
