I read the Whyville Times nearly every week, and nearly every week there is an article about "newbies." These articles normally consist of nice people wanting the "oldies" to be nicer to these Whyville Newcomers.

I completely agree that sometimes Whyvillians are WhyvILLAINS to newbies. However, sometimes newbies cross the line. It's time for some of them to stop and just keep it to themselves.

Here's what happened to make me feel this way: I was innocently floating around at the beach one day when an unsightly head scooted up near me. I didn't mind that she was missing a nose, and that her neck didn't quite reach the bottom of her head -- those flaws were minor. I have never judged who I talked to based on their face parts. In fact, many of my good friends on Whyville aren't exactly "Pick Your Nose Divas."

So, I was perfectly fine with the dismembered head sitting next to me, until she started scooting closer.

I asked, "Can I help you?" -- that was my mistake. The instant after I made verbal contact with her, she ran amok with words. It started off innocently:

Her: Hi
Me: Hello
Her: how r u?
Me: I'm pretty good.
Her: thats good

Then things got "Newbed". (Newbed = an indication that a newbie is soon to attack.)

Her: asl?

Of course I'd give her my "asl" (age/sex/location) -- I don't really mind telling people that. But I knew she was getting at something....

Me: 14.m.usa
Her: cool, same, except f, lol!
Me: cool

I knew I was in for it; I could sense her attack. She was ready to pounce like a panther... her legs scootching back, her head to the ground, her ears back and her eyes huge....

The attack:

Her: are you single?

It was over, there was no escaping it now, inevitable doom awaited me

Me: ...yes

NO! I should have lied and said that I had six girlfriends, and I love them all and I refuse to date another person! But no, I told the truth. Stupid me! My honest soul comes out to haunt me....

Her: wanna be gf and bf?

What do I do? It's all happening so fast... yet this is my eighty-third attack in the past hour. I'll never learn! I'm doomed for all of eternity to be stuck in this conundrum!

The following is my best attempt at being mean, yet nice:

Me: ...well... no, not really sorry
Her: why not?
Me: well the girls I date on Whyville are normally girls that I know a little better.
Her: well you already kno my asl

This is when I got mad.

Me: yea but I don't KNOW you...i hav to be friends with you
Her: what kind of music do u like?
Me: no you dont get what im saying... I dont want to date you, I only date girls that im friends with

The conversation continued like this until I ended up blowing up at her and telling her that she will go through life sad and lonely.

Forgive me -- many of you do not understand what I mean when I say that I need to be friends with girls first. I DON'T DATE RANDOM GIRLS. Does that make more sense?

I have many friends on Whyville who are girls, I started just chit-chatting with them and eventually have created strong bonds. Those are the type of girls I would date. Not girls that float up to me and ask me out just because they want a boyfriend, and maybe because they think my Whyville face is "hot." No, that's not how it works.

Of course oldies are going to be rude to newbies if newbies do not LISTEN to what the oldies SAY to them! If I say no, that means no... stop bugging me.

Until newbies learn that our world doesn't revolve around them, oldies are still going to be mean.
