School's out and summer is here! That means lots of fun in the sun for a lot of kids, adults, and pretty much everyone. So here are some ways you can stay healthy this summer....

1. Keep hydrated
During the summer, it can get VERY hot while you're playing outside. So, to keep yourself healthy and able to keep playing, drink lots of liquids. Soda pop doesn't do you nearly as much good as water (that's #1), and sports drinks or juices. Just be careful what kind of juices you choose. Some juices are overloaded with sugar and although they will help you a little, it isn't that good for you in the long run.

2. Be sure to take breaks
When playing outside, be sure to go into the shade or back inside for a few minutes (at least 5-10 minutes) pretty often, to cool down a little. During the summer it sometimes gets very hot, and nobody wants you to have a heat stroke!

3. Use sunscreen!
The sun is out a lot more during the summer time. Use sunscreen to stay away from those awful sunburns and maybe even from sun poisoning!

And most of all, remember that when you start feeling like something might be wrong, like you're too hot, too thirsty or starting to get dizzy, go somewhere cooler, get a drink and/or tell someone! Take a few minutes for a break if it is definitely just something minor, but if you don't start feeling a lot better, get an adult or call for help. Don't take any chances, because the sun and heat are dangerous things sometimes if you get too much of them!

Don't forget to have fun this summer, though!

Going to enjoy the sun -SAFELY-
