Whyville Bookworm Book Club

Hi Whyvillians:

How would you like to join a book club? Would you like to get together once a month with a group of Whyvillians that like to read and discuss a book that we have all read? If you would, let me know.

For the first book I have chosen the book Holes by Louis Sachar. If you don't want to buy the book, look for it in your local library. Send me a quick Y-mail to let me know you would like to join, then we can get together as a group and discuss the book a month from now. If you don't think you will be able to make it to a meeting you can just Y-mail me with your opinion of the book.

A Little about This Month's Book

Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty- rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnats. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day, digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lof of holes.

It doesn't take long for Stanley to realize there's more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dried-up looking lake? Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment -- and redemption.

Looking forward to hearing from all you Whyville bookworms,

Riven
