Marriages? It's Your Choice!

I felt that the article "Married? Are You Crazy?" by LittleSweetKitty was unfair to only write the view from the con side of Whyville marriages. The article interviews two Whyvillians who both think that marriages on Whyville are wrong. I think that it would have been better for LittleSweetKitty to also interview someone who was married, or felt that Whyville marriages were okay.

There were only two people, three if you count the writer, whose opinions were shown. The article doesn't mention input from anyone else besides these people. It makes me wonder if there are only a few people who feel this way about Whyville marriages, or if the common feeling is otherwise.

I decided that I would like to see more debate about the point, and interviewed some fellow Whyvillians to see what they thought about it.

I first interviewed AnGeL99.

Q: Are you married on Whyville?
A: No.
Q: Would you ever get married on Whyville?
A: Yes, maybe, it depends on my boyfriend.
Q: Do you have a Whyville boyfriend?
A: Yes.
Q: Do you know anyone married on Whyville?
A: No.
Q: How do you feel about Whyville's couples having babies?
A: Well it's weird, I mean one day they get married and the next day they are having a baby.
Q: Do you think it's okay?
A: Yea.

I also interviewed Michael22.

Q: Are you married on Whyville?
A: I was 2 times but not anymore.
Q: Do you know anyone married on Whyville?
A: Yes.
Q: How do you feel about Whyville's couples having babies?
A: It's a great thing.
Q: Why were your Whyville marriages broken up?
A: People lied and said I cheated.

Both of these people's opinions are pretty much for Whyville marriages. They both think it's all right.

When I asked Punkst3r, the builder of one of Whyville's first churches, what he felt a Whyville marriage was, he responded, "I think the expectations of a Whyville marriage is to be there for each other and not break up the second you have a fight. It's like a stronger 'hold', if that makes sense. It's just a way to make Whyville feel a bit closer to real life."

I also asked him personally if he was married. He replied that he is engaged beause he wants to get to know his fiance better, because he thinks she is a great person, and also because it's "koo."

In this reporter's opinion, it is important to remember that Whyville is a sort of fantasy role-playing game. We take on a picture, personality, and a whole different life online, where we can socialize, create, and just relax.

I think that if people want to get married, then that is their own personal choice and that they should not be looked down upon for wanting to strengthen the bond in their relationships.

Thank you to everyone I asked about this issue. Special thanks to Michael22 and AnGeL99 for their interviews and Punkst3r for his information.
