It's happened to everyone. We eat something bad and our friends say, "OMG! What have you been eating? You need a mint!"

Okay, maybe your friends aren't as dramatic as mine, but we've all had those times when our breath stinks.

Did you know that there could be a real problem in your mouth that's bigger than bad breath? It's called halitosis.

Halitosis happens when someone produces an offensive odor from their mouth or even your nose! But you can't stop it through normal oral hygiene techniques, like flossing or brushing. The symtoms of halitosis are:

1. Having a bad taste in your mouth all the time.
2. Your breath is constantly bugging your friends.
3. People have commented on your bad breath and have offered you chewing gum or a mint because of it.
4. You feel embarrassed by your breath.
5. You find yourself using breath mints, mouthwashes, chewing gum or internal breath fresheners.
6. People step back from you when you are talking or avoid having direct contact with you.
7. You experience a dry mouth or thick saliva on a regular basis and can't help it.

If you answered yes to a few of the above, then you likely have a breath problem. But if you answered number seven yes, then you probably need to make an appointment with your dentist.

But if you answered no and just have morning breath or something, then keep away from these foods when you're about to talk to your crush, so that he or she won't step back or avoid making contact with you!

-garlic
-onions
-ice cream
-cheese
-yogurt
-milk
-coffee
-sugar
-and of course, smoking!

Try your best to not eat these foods. But when you do, make sure to brush AND floss your teeth. Along with foods that make bad breath, there are some that help get rid of it, such as:

-high fiber foods
-crunchy, raw fruits and veggies (chew a lot!)
-apples, pears, carrots
-and fresh parsley

Well, I've got to go clean. See ya!
