It's that time again!

Yes, it's time for another Senate Race, in which you, the citizens of Whyville, get to run for office. Whyville Senators meet with City Hall every month or so to discuss the ideas and opinions of their fellow Whyvillians, plan projects, and generally figure out the future of Whyville.

The cycle will continue in the coming weeks, with one Senator stepping down and a new one joining our illustrious triumvirate (there's a pair of good SAT words for ya!).

Design a platform that announces to Whyville what you hope to accomplish as Senator -- things you want to fix or add to our town to make it better. Don't go overboard, because you can only do so much, but try to be creative and always remember to ask WHY! Why should people vote for you? Why should we have this game or change this rule?

Remember, you all must decide who can best represent your online town. What can candidates really accomplish? What are good characteristics of a Whyville Senator? Ask yourselves these questions and try to find an answer, not only within yourselves but amongst your fellow citizens, friends and otherwise. We're all in this together!

If you want to be an official candidate, post your platform using the Platforms Tool starting MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29. You probably won't be able to post any earlier, but just in case, remember that early platforms will NOT be accepted for the official election. Voters should remember that you can only vote for one platform, so pick the BEST ONE!

After two weeks, the candidates with the best platforms will be selected to have their petition/poll posted in the Whyville Times, on December 12. These individuals (usually the top 3) will hold an official Whyville debate, hosted by City Hall during the week of December 20 (hopefully before Christmas). Voting will start right afterward, and the new Senator will be inaugurated soon after New Year's Day!

Remember, when the official votes happen, you'll only be able to pick one person to vote for!

Every Senator has a six-month term, which means they become an "ordinary" citizen again after half a year, though there are no rules against them running for office again.

Check out City Hall's announcement from June 2003 about the original Senator seat, which was won by Giggler01 in the final weeks of August. The second Senator was OrEoBaBy, who just stepped down from her position a few weeks ago. Whyvillians chose now-Senator Sonner to be their third Senator: he will be stepping down after this month's Senate Race. Don't forget Senators DivaSis and softbll12! And most recently, Senator hotboi764 replaced Sonner.

That might be a little confusing. Put it this way:

    Current Senators = DivaSis, softbll12, hotboi764
    Retiring Senator = DivaSis
Former Senators = Giggler01, OrEoBaBy, Sonner

How's that? Good luck to all you aspiring politicos! I truly hope that the best candidate wins.
