The Great Whyville Yeti

by Sari and sailorm
    Whyville Writers

One winter day in Whyville, sailorm and his friend Sari were strolling through Whyville when they suddenly heard a very loud "ROAR!"

They both jumped a mile and Sari said, "Did you hear that?!" and sailorm replied, "Oh you heard it too? I thought that was my head!"

So they peered over the SmartCars Arena and there, standing in the snow, was a big, furry, grey Yeti. Sailorm's eyes widened and Sari gasped.

"What is it?" asked sailorm.

"It's a Yeti," Sari replied.

"What is a Yeti?" asked sailorm.

"It's a legendary Himalayan animal that is known to eat mountain climbers and hikers," she quoted.

"AHH! I'M A MAN!" shouted sailorm, terrified.

"Don't shout! You'll give away our position!" whispered Sari.

"Oh sorry," sailorm said.

Then they both suddenly jumped to the ground before the Yeti could see them, since sailorm had just given away their position.

"What should we do?" sailorm asked.

"Hmmm... we should kill you for giving our position away," Sari said.

"Why don't we just run to that slope back there?" He pointed to a nearby slope.

"Ok, on the count of three, 1,2,3!" They both dashed to the slope and look for the Yeti. But the Yeti was nowhere to be found.

Suddenly, the Yeti appeared right above them! He grabbed sailorm and threw him across the clearing.

Sari ran for her life, towards the small cave which they had passed earlier! Sailorm slowly got up and scanned the area. He spotted Sari running to the cave and the Yeti chasing close behind!

Shouting to get the Yeti's attention, sailorm ran in the opposite direction of Sari, and the Yeti turned to chase him.

Sari dove into the cave and pulled out her watch. It's not just a simple watch, but a high-tech watch she'd just gotten for the holidays. Experimenting with it, she found she can create high-powered snow skis and a huge net, which she then used to catch the Yeti just as it caught up to sailorm.

Sailorm and Sari then stood over the Yeti and thought to themselves, "Now what should we do?"

Sailorm looked down at his coat and saw the places where the Yeti had pierced into his flesh. Then the Yeti grabbed sailorm once again and Sari used her watch again, this time using her tranquilizer.

Sailorm lay there on the snow and the Yeti lay there too. Sari radioed the rescue team to come and they soon arrived in a couple of hours. The Yeti was turned in as a criminal to Whyville's Monster Jail (where they saw a Most Wanted sign for the Twisterfish)

The Yeti was put into the Monster Jail for about two weeks, and Sari took Sailorm to a nearby hospital to get the scrapes from the Yeti's claws checked for infection.

When the doctors finished with sailorm, he and Sari went to a cabin about 3 miles from where they were attacked. Sari then said after a long silence, "We should make a few notes before talking to City Hall about the Yeti and the attack."

"Yeah." said sailorm. So Sari and sailorm got out a big piece of paper, and just before Sari started drawing the place where the attack was, a very loud siren went off.

"What is that noise?!" shouted sailorm.

"WHAT?!" Sari shouted back. Then on Sari's watch, a message came up. This is what she read aloud to sailorm:

WARNING!!! The Yeti has escaped from the Monster Jail! Lock all doors and windows. Be on guard at ALL times!

Sailorm groaned. "Oh no." he whined.

"Oh yea. This is a great cup of daily tea." Sari said sarcastically. Sailorm laughed.

"Sailorm! You shouldn't be laughing at a time like this!"

"A time like this is always a good time to laugh to get our minds off of the *dun dun dun!!!* Yeti!!" said Sailorm.

They then heard a scratch on the window and turned around to see... A tree scratching on the window.

"Whew!" they both said together.

They then went back to their plan. They decided to tell City Hall after they figured out where the Yeti was from and where it lives. So, they adventured out into the brisk cold.

There they discovered a trail of footsteps -- but not human steps, Bigfoot steps!! But why would the legendary Bigfoot be out here in the cold?

They followed the trail and soon saw a caved-in hole in the mountain about two feet off of the ground. They walked towards it and discovered a sancutary for the Yeti young ones.

"What should we do?" asked Sailorm.

"We should report this to City Hall as soon as possible," whispered Sari.

"But wait, wasn't the one that we caught a female?"

"Yeah."

"Well then where is the father of these young ones?" sailorm asked.

They both looked at each other.

"Maybe we should turn these ones over before they become like their father." Sari said.

"Yea, maybe we should." replied sailorm. He reached over to grab one of the baby Yetis.

"OUCH! That little bugger bit me!" he cried. Sari rolled over, laughing.

"It's not funny, Sari!" sailorm complained, pretending to be hurt.

"LoL, I'm sorry."

Then... *stomp.. stomp..stomp* went the ground!

Sari and sailorm fell to the ground.

"Oh no! Daddy's home." said Sari.

"Yea, let's get out of here before he finds WE'RE the ones who captured his mate," said sailorm.

They ran off and try to follow the tracks that they had followed before, but they were covered up by the snowstorm. The two of them wandered off in the middle of nowhere.

"This is just great, I knew we should have told City Hall where the little Yeti's are," complained Sari.

"There's not much we can do except head in the same direction until we see something," sailorm said (not really believing what he just said).

So, they walked on and on. But after a while, they were still wandering the plains of snow. Both frozen and lost, they spotted another small cave in a side of a mountain.

"Look!" said Sari "a cave!" They dashed over to it but realized it's the same one that was full of little Yetis.

"We are back where we started!" exclaimed sailorm. "Now what are we going to do? Doesn't that watch of yours have something we can use?"

Sari looked at her wrist, but the watch was gone!

"Where's my watch?"

"That little Yeti got it!" cried sailorm, pointing to a Yeti trying to bite through the watch.

"Hey! You little bugger! Give that back!" Sari shouted, jumping at the Yeti but failing to retrieve the special watch. Sari chased the Yeti through a very dark, very LONG cave.

Sailorm yelled, "Sari! Don't go in there! It could be dangerous!" Then he heard Sari scream, and then a loud *CLUD!*

"Oh no! The baby Yetis have taken Sari as their prisoner!" Sailorm ran away, somehow finding his way back to Whyville West. There, he found City Hall talking with Bigfoot Bill about the Yeti problem.

"City Hall! Bigfoot! The baby Yetis have taken Sari prisoner in a long dark cave! Who knows what they're planning on doing to her!" panted a very exausted sailorm.

City Hall looked at BigFoot, and Bigfoot looked at City Hall, and they BOTH looked at sailorm, and then sailorm fell over and landed on a watch-looking thing.

"Hey, this is my long lost brother! Wait, it's a watch so it's my long lost watch! Yes, I have finally found you!" City Hall bent over and looked at the watch.

"Hey, that's my watch!!" she said.

"Come on, you guys, Sari is in trouble" said Bigfoot Bill.

"You're right," sailorm and City Hall said together.

So, they all adventured into the snow blanketed plains, driving in their high-tech snow-protected dune buggies. All of them scoped the area for the cave Sailorm had described.

All of a sudden, Sailorm bumped into the escaped Yeti!!! The Yeti, recognizing sailorm, picked him up by the neck, holding him like that until he passed out. Once sailorm was knocked out, the Yeti took him to a long, dark cave with a portcullis that kept him prisoner in the cave.

Sailorm woke up to the crackling sound of a lit fire. He wondered what the heavy thing on his chest was. He realized that it was a sweater, and a cloak.

Sailorm sat up and there, looking out of the frosted bars, was Sari! She was in a daze from being so cold without her sweater and cloak, so, as soon as sailorm said "Sari?" she falls down into a deep, deep, sleep.

Sailorm dashed to the side of Sari, picked her up in his arms, and wrapped the cloak around her. He then waited until she awoke.

When she did, they tried to think of ways to get out. But, with that portcullis around there was nothing they could do. They sat there on the cold bare floor waiting for something to happen, like the portcullis to pass out or something.

So they waited some more and more and more. Then, finally, the fire went out, so the portcullis got up and went outside to get some more firewood.

"Sari, this is our chance, look at the small opening, we have to get through it, come on!"

So, they both escaped before the portcullis came back. Just as they both got their higher torsos out from underneath the portcullis, it came crashing down on top of them both!!! But the strange part was, it didn't hurt them at all. It was a trick to get them to be alert of the crash.

After the ice from the roof fell, Sari and sailorm looked up to see the feet of the male Yeti.

"Uh-oh," says Sari.
