Yes, this tale is about Akbar. But not the Akbar you are most likely thinking of.

Did you know that the word Akbar means "very great"? Well, while this does happen to explain our store & factory owner here on Whyville, it was really the perfect name for Akbar, the greatest Mogul emperor.

Young Akbar became emperor when he was only fourteen years old. He continued to rule for 49 years, from 1556-1605.

Akbar was a fantastic military leader, but did not take revenge on defeated enemies. He tried his best to make friends or allies (helpers). These are just some of the reasons why he was such a great ruler.

Akbar in person was an interesting fellow. He had long arms and a wart on his nose. He dressed and ate casually, which was very unusual, compared to most rulers. He never learned to read, but enjoyed being read to very much. Philosophy and religion are two topics that interested him the most. He even tried to create his own religion, but it did not work out, for many were not willing to give up their own beliefs and ways.

After Akbar died, his son and grandson carried on his work. Like their father/grandfather, they were very good leaders. They kept the empire's justice, and kept expanding it.

It was even Akbar's grandson who built the Taj Mahal! The Taj Mahal, one of the most famous buildings ever constructed, took 20 years to be built. And do you know how many people it took to build this one building? 20,000! Not too surprisingly, it cost millions of dollars to put all of this together.

I wonder, did Whyville's Akbar know about this Mogul emperor when he named himself here? If so, why did he decide to name himself after a mighty emperor? If you have any idea whatsoever, Y-mail me. Thank you very much for reading this!
