The other day, I was reading the Creative Writing section when it hit me! Most poems tell some kind of a story. I have selected the following two poems that I think tell a particular story or describe the writers' feelings.

This poem was titled Silence, and it's by Depraved:

I look around
And to define what I see
In one word
Would be silence

For just one moment
The whole world is quiet
By the blink of an eye
That would all change

I'm talking about that day
You know
September 11th
The day the whole world
Would stop turning for one moment

Families were torn... depressed....
But I don't know what we did to deserve
This day
Of silence....

Now, you may say, "Duh, the story behind it is the September 11th attacks!" Actually, I think this poem means more than that. To me, Depraved is describing the way she felt.

She obviously felt like it all went by so fast and she couldn't concentrate on anything else. When the attack happened, I know myself that I felt like I was frozen. Just like she describes it.

Depraved was probably also confused when the planes hit and the towers fell, just like thousands and thousands of others around the world. Why would somebody just want to blow up the Twin Towers? We were shaken to silence, not comprehending the disaster or its reasons.

This next poem was written by Andrea96, and it is titled Sad Days.

I have good days,
I have rough days,
I have happy days,
I have many sad days.

I cry and I cry,
I remember upsetting things,
I try to look on the bright side,
But I don't remember why.

Why must we have sad days,
I once asked my mom,
She said she doesn't know,

I don't like to cry,
But I don't understand why

In this poem, Andrea96 describes a day that she doesn't like. She basically ponders why every day can't be good. I know you might say that it's just the way things are, but why do things have to be like that? It's almost like this poem is asking a question rather than telling something, and it's a natural question.

OK, that will conclude my article. I hope you guys have, again, enjoyed these poems like I have and I hope that you see the story that every poem has to hold.

This is hottiemb, going to gymnastics. LoL... see ya!

Editor's Note: Thank you, hottiemb, for your efforts in understanding the meaning behind these creations... I think in this week's all-poetry issue, you'll find many more stories! Indeed, some are most complex, and you may even find more than one story in them.

We appreciate all the efforts of our writers and readers to explore literary analysis here in the Times... hint, hint. ;-)
