Ahhh, the Whyville Times BBS. A great place to talk, debate and discuss the article...

Or, a place to beg for clams, beg for a b/f or g/f, or just plain annoy people. *Sigh*

Yes, sad as it is, people just can't seem to stay on topic in the BBSes anymore. Most people do, but others just goof off and chew up valuable server space.

I'm sure you all know that the BBSes inside Dr. Lelia's house are about a million times worse! In the Times, you only get about 1 to 4 off-topic entries in one BBS. But go look at the Dr. Leila ones -- NOTHING is on topic.

So what are we Whyvillians to do? I've got some proposals:

First off, let's get rid of the Dr. Leila BBSes. Why have them if they're going to be abused? Senators and normal citizens alike have requested this, so let's do it.

Now, I think there's not really anything we can do to help the Times BBSes, but I believe the off-topic posts would decrease dramatically if we had the Ad Agency back.

The Ad Agency shut down before I joined Whyville, but being an archive reader I've got a pretty good idea what it's for, what it did, etc. With the A.A. up and running, I predict a lot fewer off-topic BBS postings.

Even if the ads were just stupid things like clam begging and so on, CWs could make each ad run for only an hour or something, and it would cost clams to put one up, and that would help things in the BBS.

(Author's Note: That may have been true already, but I can't read every archived article, y'know!)

Sure would be nice to do something about the petitions, but that's another article... ;-)

This is Kimker, signing off.

Editor's Note: Once upon a time, I wanted City Hall to accept 911 reports of off-topic behavior, paying special attention to reports from the authors themselves; thus, I wanted the authors to be in charge of a fair and open discussion of their articles. Unfortunately, that would really flood the 911 report tool, so it can't be done that way. Can you think of a middle ground that would help our citizens stay on target? Maybe all we need to do is think twice before posting! :-)
