It has come to my attention that several of our Whyvillians involved in Club Why have started making "Burn Books" like in the movie "Mean Girls". In the movie, the creator of the book writes terribly mean things about various people they know. The people I'm talking about are doing the same about citizens they have encountered in Whyville.

Writing slander against other Whyvillians is not only unacceptable, but also cruel and low. I have seen these burn books, and they contain more profanity than I would like to encounter in my day to day life.

Why do we have to hate each other? Why do we have to take it to an extent where we want to make others feel terrible about themselves?

These "books" are simply gossip and it is wrong.

Please stop the hating, everyone! In my opinion, the last person who got far in life from hating people was Osama Bin Laden, and while I'm not equating this kind of meanness to terrorism and murder, burn books share similar characteristics: they're vicious, selfish and heartless.

I really hope that no one plans on going down that path. As long as we stay positive and learn to look past each other's faults, I believe we will suceed in life -- emotionally, socially and physically.

Maybe instead of making these obnoxious and extremely immature "burn books," you might want to try writing books or starting your own website where, instead of writing slander, you write of kindness and of the good in everyone.

Off to spread some love, this has been Sweden!

Editor's Note: And let's not forget, gossip that goes too far can really hurt Whyville by making our community look bad in the eyes of other kids, teens and adults -- so not only would any "burn book" be selfish and small-minded, it would also be really really against the Whyville Way. Let's open our minds and our hearts to each other, okay? (Or at least not express our frustrations in such a public way, without thinking about the results.)
