Too Good To Be True!

by Tech-Girl

This article is dedicated to all Whyvillians who have experienced their accounts being stolen/taken.

I've been on Whyville for a year and a bit, so I've heard ALL the warnings about NOT EVER giving away your password. The warnings in the BBS, The Times, by people who have experienced it, and even in y-mail. So why did I give my password away? I'll tell you my story, and let you judge for yourself...

Before Tech-Girl (Tech) was stolen, I received about three y-mails from my friend Sandra, telling me how great Lilibug was, and how I should trust her and let her bring up my salary.

The first two mails, I kinda ignored, but the third got me thinking. "My friend wouldn't lie to me, so maybe Lilibug is a person who can actually be trusted?" Then I kinda forgot about Sandra and Lilibug until I met Sandra in the Square.

"Hallo Sandra! I read your y-mails. The ones about Lilibug. Are they true?"

"Yes. They are true, you can trust Lilibug. She already has a lot of clams, so she won't take yours!!"

"Hmmmm. Do you know where I could find her?"

"I saw her about five minutes ago at the Sportzplaz."

"Okay, I'll go there now. Bai bye."

"Bye."

What was about to happen next was going to hurt a lot of people...

So I went to the Plaz and I saw Lilibug there... I began to whisper to her a few questions.

"Lilibug, I've heard you can increase my salary, is that true?"

"Yes I can," she answered plainly.

"How can you prove you're not a hacker?" I asked, not totally convinced.

"Talk to Sandra72, I've changed her salary, now she's rich!!" she replied.

"Uh huh. So if I gave you my password now, you could change my salary?"

"Yes." Another plain answer.

"Okay my password is **********. How long will it take you?" I asked, still feeling very uneasy.

"About 10 minutes. I'll go now. And for trusting me, I'll buy you some tops, k?" she said, obviously very happy. As it turns out, she was happy because she had tricked another person into giving away their password -- giving away their account!

"Okie, Bai Bye" I said, and left.

So I logged off, and waited 15 minutes, just to be sure. Then I went to the sign in page and entered the things needed to get into Tech's account.

But... it didn't work.

I tried to stay calm, it was my first try, and I might have just typed something wrong.

So I tried again. Then a third time, fourth time, fifth time, and finally a sixth time.

Then I realized that Tech had been stolen. My only advantage was, I knew who had taken her.

I logged into another account that I have and I waited for the page to load.

As it loaded, I didn't at first feel sad, but I was soooo angry. I wanted to find Tech, and get things back to normal. Easier said than done.

I found Tech and Lilibug at the playground, they were there tricking my Whyville momma, googles.

And because I was so angry, I couldn't keep quiet for very long.

Me: MOM SHE STOLE ME!!!
Googles: Wut?
Me: LILIBUG TOOK TECH-GIRL.
Lilibug: I did not.
Me: YES U DID. U TOOK TECH.
Tech-Girl: Wat?
Me: U FAKER. THATS ME, GET OFF MY ACCOUNT. DO U BELIEVE ME MOM.
Googles: Missy, calm down. Lilibug, is that true?
Lilibug: No!! I never took her.
Me: WELL EXPLAIN, HOW COME I CAN'T LOG IN THEN, EH?
Whispered by Googles: I believe you. Thank-u! I was about to give her my password.
Me: SO R U GOING TO TELL ME WHY?
Tech-Girl: This is stupid.
Me: ARGH. GIVE IT BACK U FAKER.
Lilibug: I didn't take anyone.
Me: OWN UP.
Tech-Girl: I don't understand. I'm googles' daughter, I think you're the faker.
Googles: Don't even go there.
Me: Okay, NOW CAN U GIVE HER BACK?

Then Tech-Girl left with Lilibug.

I had to get my account back. So I got straight to work.

I tried getting my password emailed to me BUT she had changed the email address. I tried to figure what the p/w was BUT it was practically impossible to figure out what it was. So both of these plans failed.

That didn't stop me, I really wanted my account back.

My next plan worked out better... the plan was to tell EVERYONE about Lilibug, and what she had done to my account. This plan worked out a lot betta!!

Everywhere I went I told everyone about Lilibug and what she had done! So, about after a week, nearly EVERYONE knew about her!!

I also sent her a couple of guilt letters....

And now, a week later and thanks to City Hall, I have Tech-Girl back!

To conclude, Lilibug won't stop. She's a scammer, and you CAN NEVA TRUST SCAMMERS. If I had only listened to what everyone had told me about never giving your password out. Then I wouldn't have had my clams and rooms stolen. And just quickly I'd like to thank ALL the peeps who listened to me, and who helped me like these ppl...

Genie2, Littlejoj, Amanda, Amanda22, Karra, Azzkickr, Girlie131 and a very very special thanx to GOOGLES! lol, I know I've forgotten someone, but thanks to u 2!!

NEVA GIVE UR PASSWORD OUT. EVEN IF IT IS UR FRIEND WHO'S ASKING. AND IF SOMETHING SEEMS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT OFTEN IS!!

Thank you for reading,

This is Tech-Girl signing off!
