Whyville has its own messaging system, similar to email, called "Y-mail." This system allows you to send messages to your friends in Whyville with quite a bit of ease. Here is a guidebook to help you get started.

First, click on the icon of the cell phone on the top of the bus. This will take you to a page that looks like this:

To send a message, click on the pencil icon that says, "New Message." That will take you to this screen:

You can choose who to send a message to by opening the scroll bar next to "Send To." This will give you a list of the people in your address book.

If you want to send a message to someone who is not in your address book, then you need to find them on the website, double-click on their face, and choose the option "Y-Mail." Or you can look them up on City Records and click on their face there. This will take you directly to this page.

You can then make sure they are in your address book from then on by checking the box that says "Add recipient to address book."

The next step is to write your message and type it into the body box below. Once you are satisfied, all that is left is to click "Send!"

Remember that y-mail is a form of communication on Whyville, and you always need to remain appropriate in your language. Regular rules apply including no asking for passwords or personal information.

You also have a quick-link directly to your address book. If you click on the notebook icon that says "Address Book," it will take you to a table that lists all of your friends.

If you click on your friend's name, then it will bring up options to either "Silence," "Reject mail from," or "Vaporize."

If you are a Why-Pass holder, you can use the Friend Finder to send a pre-made message to your friend asking them to meet you at a variety of different locations all around Whyville.

There is also a link at the bottom of this page that reminds you how to add a friend to your address book.

At any time to go back to your inbox, just click on the icon with the mailbox that says "Mailbox." I hope this helps to get you acquainted with Y-mail. Take a few moments and send a message to a friend, I'm sure it will brighten their day! Remember to follow all of the regular guidelines for chat, and you will be on your way!
