I know many of you are excited for the upcoming Senate Race. So, here's a bit of information about how it works and how you can become a part.

-From September 9-11 people can submit platforms. You can submit if your account is older than 90 days and can pay a 500-clam filing fee. To post your platform click on the red book in the Poll Booth, the link on the "Senate Election" Welcome Page message, or the "Senate Election Home" link on the Calendar of Events page related to the Senate Wreath icon.

-From September 12-21 the platforms are publicly posted, and every citizen can sign one platform.

-After September 21, we verify the top three platforms with the most signatures to make sure each signature is valid, and then they will be published in the Times.

-The three finalists are contacted and will be able to submit an updated platform to the Times.

-A debate will be scheduled and held. Then, a city-wide vote is held, and the person with the most votes will become our next Senator.

-We have three Senators, who each serve a six-month term, with staggered intervals of two months. So every two months there is an open spot for a newly elected Senator.

-A Whyville Senator serves as a line of communication between the community and the City Managers, holds occasional Senate meetings, and helps filter out bad petitions.

Good luck to all the candidates, and remember to vote!
