Almost Blacked Out

Today I almost stepped wrong
And fell on roses, fragile
That would have surely died
Leaving their red petal shapes
For memories to break on

There would have been no tombstone
Or one without a plaque
It would have become nameless
"We" would have begun fading
Yet here we lie together
I don't want to let go, ever . . .

I've seen how fast the clouds move
On ordinary days
I've seen them stretch from racing
When I'd love if time would find
Its own absolute zero

But really, when do things go
Just the way you planned them?
If the rain wasn't staccato,
Floods would drown our hearts-
With sorrow, 'stead of water

There's been fear on our faces,
Times we've held our tongues
I don't want to erase this
If you will, I'll hold on

Maybe we're just on the
Valleys life's carved out
And we'll just have to climb up
'Til you look and can see
Only silver linings
On every dark, grey cloud that
Hangs on puppeteer strings

We'll watch time die together
However long it takes
And when it does, I'll miss you
When I can't hear your name again . . .
When I don't see your face again . . .
When Death does us part
