Many of you on Whyville own cell phones, and if you don't, you surely know about ring tones. You know, the noises that go off when someone is calling you or when you recieve a text message? Right, ring tones. Lately, kids in schools are using cell phones againest the school's wishes. Cell phones are great for keeping in touch with your friends and family when you're away from them, but they are used for other things . . .

For a deeper look, I asked my parents why my school (and several others) banned cell phone usage during school, and why they have to be turned off on school property during school hours. They both said the same thing: "Using cell phones in class could lead to cheating. You know, text message the question to a friend and receieve an answer."

Of course, there would arise the problem of ring tones. However, almost every cell phone this part of the century has 'silence' and 'vibrate', but lately a ring tone was invented that adults couldn't hear . . . that means your teacher.

I'm sure you're thinking, "That's pretty advanced technolgy. What kind of adult would help a student make a ring tone like that?" The answer is very simple. The 'ring tone' isn't a ring tone at all. It was originally used to repel teenagers from loitering in front of shops. If the shopkeeper put in the noise, the adults wouldn't hear it, but the teenagers would.
