Hi this is kittybabs here to tell you about bike safety. You're probably thinking "Who cares, it's not like I'd fall down and smash my head or break my bones," right? That's what I thought before one of my dear friends got hit by a truck on his bike and died of head injuries.

Every year, thousands of kids go to the emergency room because of bike accident-related injuries. Some of these injuries are so serious that children die. This is usually from head injuries. Here are ten tips that can help you keep safe whether you're go on a long bike ride or just riding to store to buy some milk.

1. Try to avoid riding at night, and if necessary make sure you have a back light that is bright so cars can see you. If possible get a front light so you can see where you are going.

2. Bring one water bottle per hour that you will be out on your bike. Bring a snack if you will be out for a while.

3. Wear appropriate biking gear, such as shorts, t-shirt, and running shoes (not jeans and flip flops).

4. Try to find bike friendly streets with designated bike lanes or take routes that you can ride on side streets.

5. Always ride single file, and on the road to avoid pedestrians.

6. Use signals for turning slowing and stopping so cars and other bikers don't hit you. Also, follow stop signs and street lights.

7. Avoid riding alone at any time.

8. Always know where you are and where you are going.

9. Equip your bike with a bell, a lock (remember to bring the key), lights, and a water bottle holder.

10. Always wear a helmet that is fastened and fits properly!

Thanks for your time and I hope you will use your most important sense, your common sense!
