They go off, leaving us behind,
Facing the vast terror of the unknown.

Each day we wait nervously for news of our loved ones,
But it hardly listens to our plea and still we wait.

Daily we wait, sitting in fear.
Praying that they are well and still brave.

But will we live like this eternally?
Forever holding signs that read "They Die for Nothing!"

Or will we do our best to help our Soldiers,
And shove far away our differences and opinion?

And if they die defending their country,
Let it be out of love and devotion
For their country, our country, and it's people.

Author's Note: This is a tribute to our soldiers who went off to fight in Iraq. I realize this simple poem might cause a lot of turmoil in the BBS, but I feel it must be said. Isn't that what Whyville is about? We write about diversity, from things as big as Gay Marriage right down to the Senate Debates in our own Greek Theater. Whether we support the war going on right now or whether we think it never should have happened, these soldiers were not forced to go. They are doing what they believe is right; they are protecting innocent people from a life of hate and sorrow, and making sure that my beloved country, the United States of America, is still known as the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. Our loved ones are fighting and dying daily. Don't shout in streets that they are dying for nothing.
