G'Day, mates! I'm writing to you from Australia, and as I'm writing this on the 25th January, it's Australia Day!

Australia Day celebrates the anniversary of Captain Arthur Phillip unfurling the British flag at Sydney Cove. He proclaimed British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia on January 26, 1788. As today is such a special day, everyone except emergency workers (police, fire, ambulance, hospital workers, etc.) have a public holiday!

Last night there was a massive concert, featuring many famous singers and other celebrities. Two celebrities even became Australians! They were Damien Leith (winner of Australian Idol 2006) and Diko (Australian Idol Judge).

Tonight, there will be fireworks on jetties, and many parties and so forth. Also, advertisements on the television have been encouraging us Aussies to put some lamb on the barbeque and have a true blue Aussie meal.

As many Whyvillians are in America and Canada, I just felt I should inform you all of such a special day here in Australia, as many of you wouldn't have known about it at all.

Well . . . Happy Australia Day, Whyvillians!

This is auschik, signing off to get the lamb off the barbie before it catches fire!
