April Fools' Day is also known as "All Fools' Day," but its origin's are uncertain. One explanation is during the reign of Constantine, a group of court jesters told the Roman emperor that they could do a better job of running the empire than he was doing. So, Constantine allowed a jester named Kugel to be king for one day. While being a temporary king, Kugel passed a law calling for absurdity on that day, and the custom became an annual event. This all happened on April 1st.

Another explanation is people in France objected to the Gregorian calendar, which said New Year's is on January 1st. But, the French still celebrated New Year's on April 1st, so other people would call them April Fools and play tricks on them.

For me, I love April Fools' Day and, though they are not very good, I try to prank all of my friends and family. But, as luck would have it, the joke is always somehow on me. I may not be very good, but take a look at these Whyvillians, whom I call masterminds in pranking:

Maglina: What is the best prank you pulled on someone?
arprulez06: I told my friend James that when you jump in the lake and you are skinny dipping it will bring you smarts and good luck.
XCaLLmE: The best prank I ever pulled on anybody was I put a kick me sign on my friends back and he got kicked by like 20 people and it was really funny.
cookie344: I hung a spider (fake) above my Mom and Dad's restaurant and when all the workers came down they screamed when the spider popped down!
Jeff104: The best prank I pulled on someone is that I put ketchup on my hand then faked I fell out the window.

Maglina: What is the best prank someone pulled on you?
4Shorty2U: When I was not looking my cousin came up behind me with a really scary mask and pushed me in the water.
XCaLLmE: The best prank ever pulled on me was my cousin borrowed my bike and was gone for a while and when he came back he put it in the garage but he said somebody stole it from him and I was really mad, but then he told me, "April Fools's!"
arprulez06: When I went to my G-mas and I went to get on the Internet (I'm terrified of bugs) and there was a bug on the chair and the mouse.
Jeff104: A prank my friend did to me is that he did something to my toy and we started fighting about it, but it was [actually] fake.

Maglina: Do you like April Fools'? Why or why not?
4Shorty2U: Yes I love it. It's the best day of the year! You get to play jokes on someone and don't get in trouble! You get a chance to get back at someone. It's just soo cool!
Jeff104: I do like April Fools' Day because I can pull all these pranks and no problem.
XCaLLmE: I really enjoy April Fools' day because you get to prank people and sometimes they get really mad but sometimes it's just for a laugh.
cookie344: I love it because I always have a new and better prank to pull on someone!

This recent April Fools' Day, my Dad woke me up and told me to be careful when I go downstairs because there are ants everywhere since it rained. This freaked me out because I am terrified of the creepy crawly bug. So I said that I'll just stay in my room the whole day, but then he said, "April Fools'!" and I was relieved. Yet, I still have to get him back.

What about all of you Whyville Times readers? Did you pull a prank on someone and/or did someone pull a prank on you? Post your stories in the BBS!

*Maglina was here . . . but is now off to make a blueprint of the "ultimate" prank*
