Editor's Note: This article discusses the controversial topic of homosexuality. I encourage you all to speak with your parents or guardians regarding this topic. Please also remain respectful as always in your discussions in the BBS.

Hello, I'd like to touch on a hot topic this month which is that June is the Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.

I myself am straight, although I partially support the gay rights movement. The reason being, is that I come from a Catholic-Christian background, so I do not support the fact that gay men and women are with the same gender. Although, I still feel that gay men and women need to be treated as equal as straight men and women or bisexual men and women.

How I found out about Gay and Lesbian Pride Month was on YouTube in a video by William Sledd. He suggested that people should post video responses to show their pride. Well I saw several gay men and women who were offended by gay and lesbian pride month and the whole idea of gay pride. You may ask, why would one who was gay bash gay pride? The answer is this:

One man said that he was not ashamed of being gay, but he didn't feel the need to be proud. He said that not being ashamed and being proud are two completely different things. He said that gay pride offended him. You may understand better if you ask yourself this question: Why do gay people need pride and straight people don't? Why do black people need pride and white people don't?

And another thing I thought about after seeing this video, is that if gay people are trying to be equal to everyone else, and "fit in" with everyone else, and let people know they're not different than everyone else . . . then why is there a month that is about gay pride? In my opinion, that is just seperating gay men and women from straight men and women.

So, please, if anyone can explain gay rights and gay pride better to me and those who question it and find it offending, post in the BBS.
