Smoking is advertised as "cool" or "popular." But many people that get pressured into doing it aren't quite aware or are ignoring the reasons why it is so bad. So, I am writing this article to tell you all of the harmful things that are put into cigarettes and some of the consequences of starting smoking.
While researching for a school project last March, I came across a complete list of all the ingredients of a regular cigarette. I had no clue all of the harmful things that are put in them. Here are some of the ingredients (only some, because there are over 4,000 harmful products)!
Acetone (yes, The same thing that's in nail polish remover!)
Beet Juice Concentrate
Celery Seed Extract
Fig juice Concentrate
Those are just some of the ingredients in a cigarette. A lot of them are chemicals that I can't even pronounce. While reading this I wondered why anyone would want to smoke cigarettes at all.
As to the dangers, we all know that lung cancer is just one of many. Lung cancer, in many cases, leads to death. Also, heart attacks and strokes are possible health conditions caused by smoking.
Smoking kills more Americans every year than alchohol, drugs, car accidents, AIDS, suicides, homicides and fires combined. One out of six deaths is related to smoking. 20,000 flu and pneumonia deaths have relation to smoking as well. Every year, 174,000 smokers die of heart disease, 83,000 from lung cancer, and 26,000 from strokes.
To the point of my article: Smoking kills. I advise you to say no to smoking.
Until my next article,
