Are Americans really too big to go to Disneyland? Well, apparently. Disney will be closing It's a Small World boat ride in January like usual, but not just to remove the Christmas decorations this year.

For those who don't know, It's a Small World is a boat ride that takes you through different "countries" celebrating their traditions and promoting world peace. It is 41 years old, originally debuting at the 1964-65 World's Fair in New York. After the fair ended, it was relocated to Disneyland as a permanent attraction. During the holiday season, it is transformed into It's a Small World Holiday featuring decorations and Christmas carols.

Maybe you'll remember the front . . .

Anyway, it is having some problems. When the ride closes in January of 2008, it will remain closed for 10 months for renovations. One renovation will be deepening the channel that the boats go through to avoid having them bottom-out, or get stuck on the bottom, like they are now due to heavier weights of patrons. Disney has actually built two platforms where the boats usually get stuck so that they can escort guests of in case a boat bottoms out.

If you like the ride, you better get back to Disneyland because it's going to be a while until you can do it again, but when you do, at least you'll know you'll make it through the ride!
