Author's Note: I do not mean to offend anyone in this article, this is merely facts my teacher told us!

Have you ever looked up from the big fat D- on your paper and said "Boy, am I lucky I have the chance to go to school and get an education!" When you're thirsty and you run to the water fountain to get a drink in the park have you ever thought, "I'm so lucky to have this nice fountain for me to drink out of." When your parents say "NO!" to getting a Wii, have you ever said, "I am so lucky to live in a house with electricity!" I didn't think so.

There are millions of people outside who aren't as lucky as you are. The other day, my history teacher was talking about how lucky we are. We all nodded in agreement, not fully understanding what was REALLY out there in the world.

The next day, we walked in. For our warm-up, she handed out a piece of paper. The title was "100 People in a room."

If you were to take 100 people from around the world and put them in a room . . .

57 people would be Asian
21 people would be European
14 people would be from the Western Hemisphere (North and South America)
8 people would be Africans

70 people would be non-white
30 people would be white

70 people would be non-Christians (Buddhists and Muslims)
30 people would be Christians (Jews, Methodists, Baptists, Catholics, etc.)

6 people would possess 59 percent of the world's wealth.
80 people would live in substandard housing
70 people would be unable to the read
50 people would suffer from malnutrition
1 person would have a college degree
1 person would own a computer.

So as you can see, not everyone is as lucky as you. Not EVERYONE has your religion, not everyone has your skin color, and not everyone can say they have plumbing and electricity like you do. So the next time you're hunting through your fridge for a snack stop and say "I'm lucky we have food so I can have a snack in the middle of the day."

This is msof57, skipping her afternoon snack. *click*
