Hey! It's Ljjpz1 back again, ready to continue my wonderful series of hobbies! This weeks hobby is music! Many people have music as a hobby, even me! Musicians are very important people. In a world without musicians, there would be no music! No guitars, no flutes, etc. That would make the world so boring! Not even elevator music! Really makes you think, eh?

Music is defined as: "An art form consisting of sound and silence. Elements of sound in music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, structure, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture."

Before I move on to the interview portion of the article, I am going to tell you about my experiences with music. The instrument I play is called the sweet potato ocarina (like the one Link plays in the Legend of Zelda series for all you Zelda fans out there). I just got it a week or two ago but I can still play it beautifully. Anyone can make music, you don't have to be a certain age or race, anyone can make music! Even banging on pots and pans when you were two years old was considered music (although your parents may disagree)!

Now for my first interview of the article.

Ljjpz1: So what instrument do you play?
Poohmunki: I play the alto saxophone
Ljjpz1: What inspired you to make music?
Poohmunki: Well the saxophone sounded really good. And most girls play the flute and other feminine instruments.
Ljjpz1: How long have you made music?
Poohmunki: Since I was in 6th grade. I am now in eighth, so I'm working on my third year. Ljjpz1: Do you play the saxophone anywhere other than school?
Poohmunki: No. Only at school.

The alto saxophone is only one of many instruments people play. The guitar for instance, is another commonly played instrument. Did you know that the modern guitar is descended from the Roman cithara brought by the Romans to Hispania around 40 AD! Or that there are 15 parts to an acoustic guitar and 13 to an electric one? Both of these guitars have a headstock, a nut, machine heads (or pegheads), tuning keys, tuning machines, tuners, frets, a neck, a body, and a bridge. Now to interview someone who plays the guitar.

Ljjpz1: What type of guitar do you play?
Bballin48: I play a Yamaha Guitar (it's an electric one).
Ljjpz1: How long have you played the guitar?
Bballin48: I have played the guitar for 7 years.
Ljjpz1: What inspired you to play the guitar?
Bballin48: My cousin inspired me to play the guitar. He is now in a music school playing the guitar.
Ljjpz1: Where do you play the guitar?
Bballin48: I play the guitar at my house or at my gigs with my band.

Here is another person who plays the guitar that I interviewed.

Ljjpz1: What type of guitar do you play?
Denver50: Electric, Acoustic, and Air :P.
Ljjpz1: How long have you played the guitar?
Denver50: Air Guitar (2 years-old), Acoustic (3 years-old), Electric (8 or 9 years-old).
Ljjpz1: What inspired you to play the guitar?
Denver50: I just like being able to rock out to songs then got into guitar.
Ljjpz1: Where do you play the guitar?
Denver50: I go to a music school so I play there and at home -- and of course lessons!

The last musical instrument I am going to talk about is, of course, your vocal chords! Nothing makes a song more complete than a person singing to it! Singing is the act of producing musical sounds with the voice, which is often contrasted with speech. Good singers have lots of talent. It is very hard to sing because you could damage your vocal chords, or hurt your throat, so you need to be careful not to overdo it. Now for my final interview of the article, I will interview someone who sings.

Ljjpz1: How long have been singing?
oXxmoexXo: Two years.
Ljjpz1: What inspired you to sing?
oXxmoexXo: My friend who is much older than me has been through tough times. When I was 10 she was in a car accident and had to have help. Breathing through the tube in her throat ruined her beautiful voice so I wanted her to still be able to have someone to listen too since she can't sing to herself.
Ljjpz1: Where do you sing?
oXxmoexXo: I sing for school a show choir and for a church choir.

That's all for this week! Thanks to wikipedia, oXxmoexXo, Bballin48, and Poohmunki for the info. See ya next week!
