Oh joy! Oh happiness! It's February and the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, love is in the air. There isn't a single upset person for Valentine's Day is already here, gracing our presence. I can hear the Hallelujah chorus as we speak while Cupid is gently striking young people as hearts are floating around my very head . . . I hope you caught on to the sarcasm by now because I was laying it on pretty thick. You see, when someone mentions "February" to me, I do think of Valentine's Day . . . but when I think of Valentine's Day, love is the farthest thing from my mind. As opposed to picturing a tiny baby in a diaper and a set of wings, I think of cheesy love notes and stale chocolate; I know, I know, I am not exactly the "optimistic" one out of the bunch, but I can not help but to speak my mind. I guess you can call me the Scrooge of Valentine's Day.

Why we celebrate Valentine's Day? I am not EXACTLY sure, something about some patron saint or maybe it wasn't a saint at all - but a fairy, OOH, or a WIZARD, yeah, a wizard . . . a wizard with an English accent and a scar on his forehead. Whether or not Valentine's Day is about a wizard or my neighbor with the funny mustache and bad breath, I am not here to give a history lesson, hell, I'm not here to give a lesson at all . . . I am here to try to help make your Valentine's day *shutters* enjoyable. I am really trying to pull off a fake smile here, but hey, just because I have a passion for hating Valentine's Day doesn't mean I can make a perfectly decent tips go to waste, I mean there are ways to *shutters again* enjoy Valentine's Day . . . with the right tools and tips . . .

Don't have a Valentine? WHY NOT? So you're too shy or embarrassed to ask that cute guy/girl that sits next to you in Math class, I bet many people are too shy to ask you too! But who cares? Have fun with Valentine's Day, ask a friend (even if they are the same gender as you) to be your Valentine. In the end, you will both laugh and have a good time. All your friends have Valentines? Ask a family member, whether it be a parent or a sibling - you both will have lots of fun scrounging up cards for each other! Don't get me wrong, I know it's awkward to ask others to be your Valentine, but even if you do not want a specific or official Valentine, you should still make a card or gift for a FEW people, just to show that you care. Have your Valentine or loved one in mind? Good.

Hallmark cards equal a huge fat NO-NO. A monkey can buy someone a Hallmark card and sign their name, if you're going to get someone a card, make it yourself! Design a cool graphic on the computer, break out the scrapbooking kit, take some markers out and make a giant poster. Cards not your thing? Be creative! Create a collage, construct a movie, write and act out a skit/play for your loved one. Homemade things come from the heart as opposed to those cheesy store bought cards.

Baking! Ah, yes, baking is way awesome. Nobody is too manly or too tough to bake! Not a good baker? Whoopdeedoo! Give it a whack! Make some heart shaped cookies, bake a cake, learn a new recipe. For added fun, have your Valentine, friend, or family member help you make your goodies. Can you say "quality time"? Furthermore, the worse you are, the BETTER! No matter who you are baking with, you guys will have a hoot making fun of your so-called baked goods.

Smile, I know, big whoop, SMILING! Smiling does wonders, even if you are upset, when you smile, you will feel better. A smile shows so many things, others will want to be around you, and you will have an amazing Valentine's Day. Collect cards, give cards, pass out some chocolate, and gain ten pounds from eating other people's chocolate!

Lastly, shake it off! Dance, scream, go crazy. Blast your favorite song and jump on your bed! It's Valentine's Day, most teachers will not assign too much homework and it's a good time to just take a break from your crazy life. You can be by yourself or with some friends, but have some down time just to reflect on everything.

Hey, now that I look back at this article . . . Valentine's Day doesn't seem so dreadful anymore, maybe I can actually have a good time. So, on your Valentine's Day, be happy, be excited, watch your favorite movie, or do your favorite activity. Yet, perhaps you are reading this article ON Valentine's Day, or even after . . . You see, it's never too late- you can do any of these suggestions ANY DAY because you should show others you care about them as well as having a good time EVERY DAY. Regardless, there's always next year to really put these tips to the test, or maybe next week if you want to try this out MINUS the crazy Cupid talk.

Yeah, Valentine's Day is way too cheesy for it's own good, but you can't complain about a holiday to show others you care . . . even if the cards are corny and the chocolate is stale. Then again, who REALLY needs a set date to show others that they love 'em? Show others you care when you care; wait, that's 24/7 you say? Well, you better start workin' on those cards then (:

Oh Love! Oh Joy! Oh BROTHER!,
