"The thing I like about acting is being able to lose yourself completely in someone else. I'm not that comfortable when I get recognized."

A Successful Start

She came into the world on February 21, 1987 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. From an early age she wanted to be an actress. To gain acting skills this determined young actress began attending the Neptune Theater School. Soon she began auditioning and landed her TV debut in the show "Pit Pony". She was rewarded for her acting when she received the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor Award from the Atlantic Film Festival.

Stumbling onto Stardom

Who is this 20 year old Canadian actress? Ellen Page, of course! Ellen Page is best known for her role as Juno MacGuff in the 2007 cult hit Juno. In the movie she plays a pregnant teenager planning to give up her unborn baby to a foster couple.

"What I like about the film [Juno] is that it tackles an issue that we often treat as this really heavy, dark event and we look at it with a different perspective. She's extremely independent. She finds adoptive parents before she even tells her parents. I just think it's nice not to dwell in the darkness."

Accomplishments & Awards

Ellen was rewarded for her performance in Juno with BAFTA, Academy, Broadcast FC Association, Central Ohio FC Association, Chicago FC Association, Florida FC Circle, Golden Globes, Gotham, Independent Spirit, Las Vegas FC Society, National Board of Review, Phoenix FC Society, Satellite, SAG, Toronto FC Association awards nominations. Throughout her small career Ellen has been nominated for 14 awards and won 17 awards!

Making Clever Choices

"When I was 12, I realized I was very uncomfortable having my parents on set. So I told them that, and they understood."

Young actresses are very vulnerable in Hollywood because they are constantly hounded by the paparazzi. However Ellen Page is very grounded. She shunned the negative Hollywood spotlight and decided to live in her hometown. Ellen also has a strong bond with her parents whom she thanks for being brought up respectfully. When Ellen's acting career began taking off, her protective parents were with her every step of the way -- literally! They even followed her to the show/movie sets and kept a watchful eye. When Ellen was in her early teen years she asked her parents to let her move to Hollywood. But her parents refused the idea because they didn't want their daughter be a wrecked actress as the result of being a former child star.

Reflecting on Roles

"I don't really want to do the Hollywood thing. I think you ought to try to say something with your movies."

Ellen chooses to play characters that have a message behind the dialogue. In Hard Candy (2005) she played the controversial character Haley Stark, a pre-teen who meets a photographer offline because she suspects he's a pedophile and wants to expose him. In Mouth to Mouth (2005) Ellen's character Sherry is a run away teenager who becomes involved with a dangerous cult.

A Fortunate Future

One of her future projects includes playing Bliss Cavendar in the upcoming movie Whip It (2009). No matter what role Ellen plays, I guarantee she will be successful. From being a small town girl with big dreams, Ellen Page has become an international star and a role model.
