Author's Note: This poem was inspired by the book "Beige" by Cecil Castellucci.

My name is Cali and this is my manifesto. People will ask me, "Who are you?" My reply will always be, "I am Me." I will always and forever be myself and no one else.

Asking me to change myself is like asking for the world to stop spinning
The seasons to stop cycling
Time to stop ticking
Impossible . . .

I want to capture the wind in my hands.
I want to never feel lonely or depressed.
I want to dance barefoot in the rain and scream at the top of my lungs.
I want to not stand and wait for my dreams to come to me.
I want to chase them down.
If you cannot understand these things, then you cannot understand me.

I am the Dreamer, the Outcast, the Scholar, the Punk, the Heartbreaker, the Popular Girl, the Prep, the Loser, the Athlete, the Beauty, the Nobody, the Best Friend, the Back-Stabber, the Jerk, the Helper. I am whatever you want to view me as. You may know me, but you can't control me. You can't change me.

My life is the unfinished painting and I am the artist. I will continue to paint on my canvas until it is done. This is my life and, even though I may spin out at times, I will always regain control over it . . .

I am Me
