It's a question that's been asked by school-age children for a long time. Well, why should you read? That is what my article is going to be about. BA-BOOM. Thought I needed to wake you up. Now, let's continue. Shall we?

Now, many of you have read a little, but in today's society in America it's hard to get younger children to read. My belief is that they aren't read to enough when they are young, or that they don't have something exciting or interesting to read. Parents might not encourage it, or if they do, they might just present you with a book about, oh say, Mongolian monkeys and their habitats.

Why should I read? The answer is simple. Studies show that kids who read a lot are a lot more successful in life, and that their chances of becoming doctors, lawyers, scientists, or any other well paying job is a lot higher if they read. Some people can't read fast, and they use it as an excuse. But, if they did read, we wouldn't have this problem, now would we?

In school, you're almost always pressured to read a lot. History, Language Arts and even Math (including algebra), and any other subjects you might have have reading involved. The regular drone of the teacher's voice isn't exactly something to keep you awake. But what I'm talking about is joy reading. Pick up a book! Any book that's exciting to you! "Charolette's Web", "The Jungle Book", "Chicken Soup", "Harry Potter", or even "Pony Pals"! Any type of it that amuses you is good. Books with pictures are okay, as long as they contain words.

Now, I've said what I wanted to say, and I know this has been a short article. But as I've been repeating over and over, READ A BOOK. You'll do a lot better in life; scholarships will be easier to get, you'll be eligible for jobs that pay higher wages, and maybe even get an A+ on your next test. It's your choice. So take another glance at that old dusty "Narnia" book on the table beside you. You might find it better than you assumed.

Author's Note: I read a lot, and I get good grades. I'm not bragging, but I'm saying that I've had it face-to-face, and I know. Just suffer through the first few books, and then it gets better. And if you already read a lot, then you're doing well. Keep it up! Also, I'm basing this mostly on America, so I don't really know if England or Candia has this problem. Sorry guys that I'm kind of excluding you.
