Isn't it interesting how when we're in kindergarten, first, second or third grade, boys are okay? And then in about fourth, fifth and sixth you think they are "icky"? And suddenly in seventh, eighth and the rest, boys can be you best friends? That is what this article is about. Boy *space* friends as I put it, or "guy friends" as my other friend puts it.

Lots of my "friends" have something against developing a bond with boys. I don't know why. But all they say is that they like them and then randomly turn and smile at them and then spend the next week telling all of her 50 "best friends" about that. All they say is "Ew! You like him!" or "OMG he's so cute." That's their opinion on boys.

Well, my best friends and I think about it differently. I have about six guy friends and they are all really nice. I've known them for like, ever (three years). Some of those have replaced my "friends" I have known all of my life. Because life is different than Facebooks and Myspaces. You don't have room for 1,000+ people in your heart to spend all the time with. You don't. So if I am going to spend my recesses and lunches and ten minutes before the bell, I am going to spend them with people I like to talk to. Not people who say "Hi," and then walk away to talk to her new best friend/ex-enemy. It's a waste of time and hurtful. Which is why I would rather have guy friends heal that gap. In general, they don't care what other people think. Plus they are just . . . I don't know, really nice.

But the only problem is this . . . I'm a girl and the friend is a boy. And for some reason in our society, people must be thinking, "Oh look! A girl. And a boy! Girl+boy=Dating!" And then they ask, "Are you dating?" Which causes problems in the relationship if all the time people are saying, "Why don't you go marry her?" or "Are you two going out?"

One of my friends and her guy friend faced this everyday. But he was kind of annoyed at her, since she told him she liked him. So, slowly (over the course of this school year), they grew apart. Apart enough to push him out of our "group" and send him back to his old friends who don't like us and say "Quit stalking us," even though we aren't. However, my new friend doesn't mind this and still talks to me and is my friend. Which is how it should be.

But I am not saying that I don't have any female friends. My best friends are girls. But if I could count it up, a third of my friends are guys and the rest of my friends are girls. All of them would never betray me or sell me out.
