Hey, fellow Whyvillian music lovers! It's me, Lovely432, and I'm back with more music to share with you. Before I start, though, I want to tell you how sorry I am for being on such a long break. I was extremely busy and I didn't have the chance to write any articles for a while *cough* about two months *cough*. I am really sorry for not being there and I hope that you readers will forgive me. I really love writing about music and I hope that this column continues on.

Anyways, I've done a little renovating with the column and I would like to know what you think. Please comment in the BBS or y-mail me and tell me if you like the new look or the old look better. Also, due to my still-busy schedule, I am temporarily covering only one band or musical artist per week, not two, like I used to be able to do. In the summer, I might be able to switch back and do two musical bands or artists, but for now, I can only give you one. Well, now that that's out of the way, let's get started!

3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . GO!

Ok, the first band I want you to know about this week is Cry of the Afflicted!

Where

Cry of the Afflicted is a true blue Canadian band that was formed in December of the year 2003. The band hails from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.

Members

There are currently four members of Cry of the Afflicted. They are Garret Packer (vocals), Nik Wagner (bass/vocals), Troy Doell (drums), and James Johnson (guitar/vocals). Former members of the band include Steve Lockhart and Tyler Schwindt. Both used to play the guitar for the band. Steve Lockhart left the band in December of 2007. Tyler Schwindt was brought in to replace Steve during the rest of their two month tour. Who will replace Steve permanently? The band has not yet answered that question, leaving their devoted fans anxious to find out.

Genre

Cry of the Afflicted can fall into multiple genres, but they are mostly post-grunge, Christian rock, and alternative rock. Even though they scream in most of their songs, they prefer not to be called heavy metal.

"We were never a metal or hardcore band, I'd say we're more of a modern rock band with screaming." -Garrett Packer.

Albums and Releases

The band independently released their debut EP on September 24, 2004, titled From the Shadows. The EP has 5 songs on it, including "The Opal in the Shale" and "Tale of a Soul". About two years later, in 2006, Cry of the Afflicted released their first full-length album, Consume This Wasteland. The album contains the songs "Shatter the Silence" and "Take This Day," and it has 10 songs in total. Just recently, the band released their sophomore full-length album, The Unveiling, on August 14, 2007. It has 10 songs on it, like their previous album, and includes the popular songs "A Scar Filled Sky" and "Lift the Veil".

Labels

Cry of the Afflicted is currently signed onto Solid State Records.

Appeals To

Cry of the Afflicted would probably appeal to mostly alternative rock lovers who wouldn't mind listening to a few screamo songs now and then. The band has a good, even blend of screaming and singing in their songs. Even though they are a Christian band, people of other religions would probably like them too. Their songs and lyrics are pretty catchy and I often found myself banging my head to the rhythm of the music. If you seem interested in this band, you should really check them out, maybe listen to a few of their songs. Who knows? Maybe they could be your new favorite band!

Interesting Facts

Cry of the Afflicted has performed with many popular bands including Emery and Mayday Parade.

Well, that's it for this week's installment of "Music You Gotta Hear". Thanks so much for reading! Remember to either y-mail me or tell me in the BBS which version of Music You Gotta Hear you like better. If you don't remember what the old version of "Music You Gotta Hear" looks like, look up some old articles of it. The ID numbers of some of them are 8545, 8344, and 8658. Tune in next week for more new or not that well-known music!

This is Lovely432, going to study for math finals!
