These past two soccer practices have probably been the best practices I've had. We had a college coach come to teach us some things. She taught me many things, but one thing she taught me was very important. Every time we were working on something new, she would always say, "I like the mistakes you're making," or, "You're making good mistakes, this is good." Sometimes you had to wonder if she was nuts. She wanted us to make mistakes. She liked it when we made mistakes. But she wasn't nuts, she knew what she was talking about.

She liked us to make mistakes because making mistakes is how we learn to do things the right way. She would always say, "You guys are making mistakes because you're out of your comfort zone but that's the only way to get better." When we had something mastered she made us do it twice as fast. And of course we would mess up, but I'm sure we got better.

She taught us that nobody's perfect and you can't go through one whole soccer game without making a mistake. Mistakes come naturally but next time you do the task you'll be less likely to mess up. That's why she wanted us to make mistakes. If you accidentally kick the ball with the laces and you mess up because you were supposed to kick it with the inside of your foot, then you'll learn from your mistake and do it right the next time.

It made me realize that it's necessary to make mistakes throughout life. You can't live your life staying in your comfort zone doing things that you know you can't mess up on. Messing up is ok, it's needed, it's wanted. It's the only way to learn, and better yourself.

I make a lot of mistakes in soccer, but I'm definitely improving. As long as I put my effort into it and keep practicing until I get things right, I will make less and less mistakes. Making mistakes is part of it, but the more important factor is making sure you fix it. Sure you can make a mistake and learn what the right thing to do would be, but you have to make sure you fix it. So I'm going to go outside and work on what needs fixed, until I get it exactly right.
